Interview
with Eva Mendes
Eva Mendes, what
can I say, she only gets better with every interview. She is probably
everything any guy could want, beautiful, funny, sweet, confident,
humble, the whole package, and also what all girls want from a
buena amiga. No doubt God was smiling when he made her. This past
week I met up with Eva as she did the press rounds for “Once
Upon A Time In Mexico,” and got the scoop on her other up-coming
movie “Stuck On You.” This is what she had to say
about her role and working with the crazy Farrelly brothers—did
you ever hear about how one of them always shows his penis to
his cast? They’ve done it to Cameron Diaz, and some other
weird thing to Renée Zellweger, they’ve even done
it guys. It’s this prank they like to pull. I meant and
wanted to ask Eva, but I didn’t know how to word it without
seeming crazy myself. Anyway, here we go…
Jax:
Have you seen “Stuck on You” yet?
Eva: I’ve
seen bits and parts and I’m very excited about it.
Jax: The part you
play is very different from everything you’ve been getting
lately? It seems you’re always getting cast as an FBI agent.
You’re too young to be an FBI agent!
Eva: I know,
exactly. I just think like…I just keep getting all these
cop roles. Which I’m not complaining at all, so please [looks
up to the sky with I’m happy look}. I’m not complaining
at all, but yeah. So the Farrelly brothers movie it’s totally
different and it’s really funny you guys. I don’t
know if you like their sense of humor or not, but I really do!
It’s so silly. And the thing about them is that a lot of
people have been asking well it’s about Siamese twins and
that’s not very—it’s not fair or people got
upset at them about “Hallow Hal,” but the interesting
thing about them is that they celebrate awkwardness. If you really
look, they celebrate everything that is handicap or anything that
is different or if you’re an outcast. It’s a good
thing in their movies. So they’re not making fun of those
people, they’re celebrating them, and you really see that
when you’re on a set with them and you realize PA’s
with certain handicaps. People that are just, let’s say
just an outcast for lack of a better word that really just come
together on their sets and just kind of—it just works. They
really do celebrate people with differences and stuff.
Jax: What’s
your role?
Eva: I’m
kind of like their best friend [Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear play
the Siamese twins]. I’m like their little buddy. It’s
really sweet, and I get them into the business.
Jax: What business?
Eva: Show business,
yeah. So I play like a really wannabe actress, you know, couldn’t—can’t
really get a job and tried everything and I kind of had my boobs
done, not kind of, I did. [Laughs] I had to wear like a prosthetic
boob thing. Really interesting too, I realized it’s a different
perspective…you know what it is too? Guys are a lot nicer.
You know what I mean? But what was funny was—like guys,
crew members or even other actors that weren’t sure if they
were prosthetic or real. ‘Cause that’s how they see
me all day with the boobs, so at night if we went to have a drink
or something and I didn’t have them on you could tell they
were so confused. [Big laughs] Like, ‘Wait a second. Did
you do something to you’re hair? What is it?’ You
could tell they were just dying and they wouldn’t say anything
‘cause they were so nice, but they’re just sneaking
peeks.
