Eric
Bana
Talks “Troy”
“Troy” is a city in the year
1193, and the story is about a prince named Paris (Orlando Bloom)
who steals the beautiful Queen of Sparta, Helen (Diane Kruger),
from Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson) the King of Sparta. Paris’
kidnapping causes a ten year war to break out between the Trojan’s
and the Greek’s. Leading the war efforts for the Greeks
is the great hero-warrior Achilles (Brad Pitt) and leading the
Trojan’s defense is prince Hector (Eric Bana). The film
is currently shooting and is being directed by Wolfgang Petersen,
who is best known for “Das Boots,” “The Perfect
Storm,” “Outbreak,” “Air Force One,”
and “In the Line of Fire.” “Troy” currently
has a scheduled release date on May 21, 2004. Over the weekend
at the “Hulk” press day I had a chance to ask Eric
Bana about “Troy.”
So
are you now acting in roles that are opposite from the “Hulk?”
Eric: I'm in
the middle of a production at the moment where I'm playing Hector
of Troy in an adaptation of 'The Iliad' and so, I can't think
of anything any more removed from this, than that.
Have you worked with
Brad yet?
Eric: Yeah, we're
nearly halfway through with production.
Were you intimidated
by him when you started?
Eric: Yeah, but
you can’t be, you have to put it out of your mind and do
your job. He’s a great guy. A real talent.
I heard you were going
to shoot in Morocco?
Eric: We were
never actually in Morocco. No, that was one of the locations that
they were considering, but no, we were not there. We're actually
in Malta.
I heard there’s
a sandal shortage going on because of two Alexander’s filming
and “Troy.”
Eric: Yeah, we're
kind of lucky to be first off the mark, I guess. We kind of exhausted,
like you say, the supplies of wardrobe.
