CAST TALKS WICKER PARK
From
the first moment that Matthew (Josh Hartnett) sees Lisa (Diane
Kruger) walk past the window where he works in Wicker Park, its
unmistakably love at first sight. Matt follows her, they meet
and soon afterwards fall deeply in love with one another. Everything
is going perfectly until the day she ends up vanishing without
a trace.
Two years have passed
since Lisa's sudden disappearance and Matt still can't let the
memories fade away. Then he catches a quick glimpse of someone
he thinks must be her in a bar... but is it? This sets off an
obsessive search for the woman who captured his heart years ago.
Upon his search for Lisa, Matt encounters Alex (Rose Byrne), a
mysterious young lady who may know more about Lisa's disappearance
than she lets on. Matthews search for the truth will lead him
deeper into the mystery, with each discovery more deceiving than
the next.
We
were able to speak with the cast and director of "Wicker
Park" to see what it takes to make a romantic
thriller work. Josh headlined the cast and was very crucial in
getting the film "green-lit" once M.G.M learned that
he signed on and was very excited about the project. Josh took
the role because he could relate to his characters obsession and
he was given casting approval. When asked if he likes in depth
dramatic roles or huge popcorn movies, he said "I
enjoy playing fully developed interesting characters and have
several low profile roles coming up". This
left the question unanswered on whether or not he was going to
play "Superman" and "I'm not doing
it, that wasn't mine-it wasn't for me" was
his response. Josh had a great time on the set even though there
were various challenges while filming.
Josh
let us know that one major challenge that effected filming on
location in Montreal was the sub-zero temperature. "You
could only be outside for a couple of minutes before your skin
actually started to freeze". Said Hartnett.
"It was so cold I couldn't think. I had to give
myself extra time to get through every day."
Said director Paul Mcguigan. "Wicker Park" is a film
that intricately moves back and forth in time and reveals the
story from varying perspectives. "At first it
may seem a bit confusing, but towards the end of the film it all
starts to make sense". Said Mcguigan. He also
added "We will have an alternate linear version
of the film when the DVD comes out".
Finally
came the beautiful female leads who were first cast In "Wicker
Park" then also appeared together in the summer block-buster
"Troy". Speaking with a slight German accent, Diane
Kruger filled us in on her very first scenes with Hartnett, "It
was a little embarrassing because the first scenes I filmed with
Josh were the dancing scenes and the love scenes. Its weird just
meeting someone then having to do a sexy dance for them".
Even though she had never experienced such cold weather, Diane
had nothing but nice things to say about co-stars and crew. Rose
Byrne has a strong presence in the film as Alex, a girl that admires
Matt and wants to be Lisa. "The love scenes weren't
really embarrasing for me because they are so technical. It's
all about the lighting and how you appear on camera".
Said Byrne when asked about heavily romantic scenes with Hartnett.
Byrne had to drop a heavy Australian accent for "Wicker"
which was set in Chicago. "It wasn't very difficult
because in Australia we watch alot of American television and
I was familiar with the way they speak". The
young cast had a great time filming the movie and Josh had such
a positive experience that he and director Paul Mcguigan are starting
work on another film together.
