An Interview With Pierce Brosnan
Julianne Moore spent
most of her time in 2002 in tears, on screen that is. After playing
such heavyhearted roles in Far from heaven and The Hours, what
could be more necessary than an emotional break from those kinds
of characters? In Laws of Attraction, Julianne plays a lighthearted
role, and mixes it up with physical comedy. We sat down with her
at a recent press junket for the new film, and talked to her about
working with her co-star Pierce Brosnan, traveling with her kids,
and balancing and acting career while at the same time being a
parent and producer.
So
did you put on any weight from this movie because of all the food
you eat in it? How many snowballs did you eat?
Julianne: You
know what? I ate about 4 of them... We did it in like 2 takes
so like 4, but you know what? They are nasty!! And they’re
not particularly good after sitting on the shelf for along time,
so they had to go to like a specialty store and get some. I remember
liking them as a kid, but then again my kids eat these things
nowadays that taste like baby aspirin so I think it’s a
matter of taste.
What did you do on
the weekends while in Ireland on this shoot?
Julianne: Saturday
night my kids and I go out to dinner and just hang out together.
It’s tough while on location, it’s not really quality
time, so we would just hang out and enjoy each other’s company.
Did you study any
of the classic romantic comedies for this movie?
Julianne: No,
I stayed away from seeing the old movies, so I took it day to
day and added my own style to it.
Have
you done physical comedies? There was quite a bit of it in this
movie.
Julianne: I did
a little bit of it in college and on stage, so it was pretty easy,
How was it working
with Pierce?
Julianne: He
was so great, and he’s just so handsome, and you know he’s
even more handsome in person, and he loves his family, and always
talks about his wife and kids and he’s just fabulous. He’s
a great guy.
Did you audition for
this role?
Julianne: No,
they came to me and asked if I would do it, so I was like this
is great, and it was nice they wanted me.
In the film you drink
something called a goat’s nut. What does a goat’s
nut taste like?
Julianne: That
was coffee liquor, and had tequila in it. It was disgusting?
How
do balance being a mother, actress and producer?
Julianne:
I have been blessed with a wonderful husband, great children and
successful career. I’m really lucky; my family has been
wonderful and just makes me completely happy.
With films like Far
From Heaven and now this one, your adaptation to different styles
is amazing. What was it about this role that you liked?
Julianne: I liked
her, she seemed like someone that spent a lot of time focusing
on her professional life and putting in a lot of work in to be
successful. I felt I could relate to it.
