An Interview With The Cast Of Fantastic Four

I had the opportunity to go the press junket/day for Fox's Fantastic Four, which was held at the posh RITZ CARLTON HOTEL overlooking the Statue of Liberty. Me along with other members of the press got a chance to talk to Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, and the funny Julian McMahon about the film. Below is what they had to say and you can also now listen to what each person had to say.

What special power best describes your personality and how would you use it?

Alba: To be honest with you I’m always late so I would need the ability to stop time. That’s really an extension of my real personality. I could still move around and finish getting ready because that’s usually why I’m late.

McMahon: I always wanted to fly. The whole commercial travel thing, I just don’t like. You’d cut out checking baggage and all that stuff.

Chiklis: I guess I’d be Obnoxious Man because that would be a further extension of my personality. I’m just so chatty I’m like a hungry dog off a meat wagon so I’d have the power to literally put nations to sleep with my ability to talk for days on end.

Gufford: I don’t know if there’s a special power for patience. It’s a bit boring, or maybe a special power for suaveness and sophistication. (Looking at McMahon) Laughs

Evans: I’d just like to see into the future and put all my fears to rest. I’m a little over analytical at times and that might help. Well-said okay…(Laughs)

Chris you're a pretty modest guy in life. What was it like for you kind of letting loose and playing a guy who is the opposite of modest?

Finally the film is coming out with and with all this controversy with the re-shoots and all can you talk about how has that impact each of you?

Michael you had the most complicated costume out of the whole cast, can you talk about the make up process behind that and what you thought when you saw yourself fully outfitted.

Do you any of you feel you are going to be typecast as superheros or villains from now on?

Assuming there is a sequel what for each of you would you like to see for your character whatever the next story will be?

Chiklis: A zipper because zippers are good for men you need them. Obviously some re-engineering will be able to work some bugs out because it was all about the exterior look of the character and the onus wasn’t on the comfort of the human being inside it.

Ioan, is it true that they had to make some adjustments in your costume because of your manhood?

Ioan: Yes, my crotch. At the beginning you’re testing out the suits and the costumes and we had codpieces because they were all-in-one suits. As the first sets of dailies were coming across (of the film) they were a little bit distracting to say the least. There was no CGI (computer graphic image) enhancement there! We had to make it un-distracting for the audience, really. Just had to tie it up!

Julian what’s happening with James Bond?

McMahon: I think Ioan is playing Bond.
Gufford: No, it’s just a very flattering rumor. I don’t want to jinx it.
Chiklis: Guys I’m sorry to land this on you but I’m playing Bond.

Did any of you read the Fantastic Four comic books as a kid?

Chiklis: I was a big fan of the Fantastic Four; around twelve years (old) I discovered it and other comics. I just loved them and I particularly loved The Thing. He was my favorite because I just liked the idea of a reluctant hero and this curmudgeonly every man who did the right thing for all the right reasons and didn’t want a pat on the back for it and had this selflessness. There was something about the idea of someone massively strong who would stand between the bully and the little guy that I just thought was amazing.

Evan: I didn’t read the comic books at all. I collected coins that was really cool. It’s true it’s not a joke

McMahon: When I was about five years old I was the little kid that snuck out of my bedroom and watched the TV without my parents knowing and Fantastic Four was one of the three cartoons that I used to watch. When I was about twelve years old I started to get into the comic books. In Australia we had these bubble gum cards and then I’d swap’em out with my friends. We were pretty dorky. Fantastic Four was my favorite as a kid.

Ioan: It soon dawned on me at the comic book convention last year when we were introduced as a cast that we were entering into this extraordinary Marvel (comic) world and The Fantastic Four. When I was younger I used to collect all the Star Wars figures. I still have them all in my attic so to finally play a superhero who would eventually be turned into a toy was very exciting and somewhat of a dream come true reallt. He also looks like me. I’ve seen examples with my protruding nose you can actually tell it’s me in the character, and the cod piece of course!
