AnnaSophia Robb on Charlie and
the Chocolate Factory
11-year-old
AnnaSophia Robb described her time on the set of Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory, in which she plays
Violet Beauregarde. "It was a lot of fun," she said. "Everyone
was so great. I love all the British accents that everyone [had]
because we shot in London. And it felt like a family because we
were there for half a year. And all the sets were very big and
real."
One can imagine
the effect of turning into a blueberry will me more high tech
than in the original Willy Wonka. Robb teased, "I
did prosthetics and then my body, I was 14 feet up in the air."
Robb was quite
impressed with Johnny Depp as the iconic Willy Wonka. "He's
such a great guy. He's really down to earth and just wonderful,
just a wonderful human being. And he talks to you. He's not like
one of those people who goes off to their trailers and leaves
you behind. I've never worked with anybody like that, but he hangs
around with you and he talks about his kids, which as a kid makes
me feel comfortable."
But
director Tim Burton was her favorite coworker. "He's wonderful.
I think he's the best out of everybody. I mean, he has such an
imagination and it's so cool, because he has all these ideas and
then he puts them in. And then you're in this set with his imagination,
it feels like you're actually in his mind and I think that's very
cool."
The role gave
her a nice change of pace from her current film, Because
of Winn-Dixie, in which she plays Opal, a
nice small town girl. "It was the total opposite from
Opal, but I like playing kind of a brat because it's just fun
playing mean. But of course, you be mean and then you change back
to your real self. You don't want to be mean."
