Katie Holmes Talks Batman
Begins
Not
much is known about Katie Holmes’ character in Batman
Begins. Rachel Dawes is not in the comic
book, and all she’ll say is that she was Bruce Wayne’s good friend
growing up. But we got her to reveal some other details that hint
at what her character will do in the film.
“It’s more of a talky
role,” she said. “I’m not into stunts.
Not one of those girls. I like it real easy.”
Still, she’s obviously involved
in some major special effects. “I actually find it
to be more challenging to be in a huge effects movie because a
lot of the things aren’t there, so you have to trust the director.
You react to nothing. And with this particular project, the cast
is very intimidating. And Chris Nolan is amazing, but I was just
so thrilled to be with these people that I was like, ‘I have to
do this so right and perfect.’ So I think if I get to be in another
one, maybe I’ll relax a bit.”
And she got to ride in that car.
“Like every day I was on set, I was e-mailing my friends,
‘I just rode in the Batmobile. Ha ha, what are you doing?’ It
is so cool. I saw the mobile take off and get on the street, and
I was like, ‘Okay, I get it. I get why guys love cars. I am in
love right now and all I want is that car.’”
But
the biggest reveal was her answer to the question of how many
sequels she is signed for. “It’s sort of more complicated
than that question. They can have me if they want me for two more.”
That could mean that she dies, or just that they
want to have a different Bat love interest in each film.
Holmes currently stars in First
Daughter with Michael Keaton, but she said
she did not ask him for any Batman specific advice. “Unfortunately
I didn’t really know I was going to audition for the Batman movie
when I worked with Michael. He had shared some of his stories
from his experience but we had no idea that maybe I was going
to do the next one.”
As a popular star in teen TV
shows and movies, Holmes is not counting on Batman
Begins to launch her into adult roles, but
she realizes it could help . “I hope that as I get
older and mature that I will be able to play more adult like roles
and I think we’ll see what’ll happen naturally. And doing Batman
I think will be helpful because it’s a movie that brings a lot
of exposure. But I was just so excited to be a part of something
with such history and these people and the experience was awesome.”
