Jamie Foxx (Bosley's son), Crispin Glover (The Thin Man). Director
McG
Reminder
that this is a revised draft by John August dated OCT 10, 2001
The Story begins in NORTHEN MONGOLIA
near the SIBERIAN BORDER. We find a bar full of ROUGH MEN drinking
cheap vodka, and Dylan (Drew Barrymore) drinking up against one
of many ROUGH MEN. Moments later, we see Natalie (Cameron Diaz)
enter the bar wearing a Swedish backpack with a LETS GO! MONGOLIA
guidebook. While all this is going on at the bar we find Alex
(Lucy Liu) in the basement unscrewing herself out of one of the
crates. The Angels are here on a rescue mission. They're here
to rescue Special Agent Jones. Of course our Angels cover gets
blown and they start to kick major ass at the bar al la MATRIX
style.
I thought the opening to this
scene was typical, but I caught myself laughing at some of the
lines Natalie had, playing the Swedish chick.
NATALIE
Oh vell. I luv tha nightlife, jah? I luv tha boogie!
When
then of course we get to the new Charlie's Angels office, since
the old one was blown to bits. Here we meet Jimmy, John Bosley's
nephew. A genuinely nice guy with a B.A. in Accounting. When I
heard that Jamie Foxx was playing Jimmy I thought to myself, "WHAT?"
You see, in the script he plays Bosley's nephew but in the movie
he is playing his son (good choice in changing it, makes it funnier)
and as I read along I kept picturing Jamie more and more in this
part. Jamie could possibly steal the movie from under the 3 main
stars. His role is funny as hell. He is my favorite supporting
player of the script. Good choice in picking him for this part.
JIMMY
Now listen, before Charlie calls in, I need to go through some receipts.
The angels groan.
JIMMY (Cont'd)
Hey, this is a real job if you'll remember. Somebody has to
do the accounting here. Now, who had the C-4 explosive?
Alex raises her hand.
JIMMY (Cont'd)
Laser-torch?
NATALIE
Me.
JIMMY
Luke Perry action figure with comb?
Now
what is the plot all about? Shall we
to make a long story
short it's basically the same plot as the 1st MISSION IMPOSSIBLE
movie with Tom Cruise. You see 5 federally protected witnesses
have been killed. The FBI believes all signs point to a MOLE supplying
the names to a character (don't want to give away to much) in
the script, because no else has that kind of access. Like in MISSION
IMPOSSIBLE there was a MOLE who wanted the NOC-LIST with the
names of all the agents names. HALO has the names of the
witnesses under the FBI program. So any mafioso who wants a witness
dead, goes to the MOLE and pays big $$ etc etc
.
WIXON
HALO is the codename for the Federal Witness Protection Program,
specifically the master database of the 9,000 people we've placed
under different identities across the nation. It has all of their
information, right down to the address. It's the Holy Grail of
domestic espionage.
I wasn't really a fan of the 1st
Charlie's Angel. I didn't even see it in the theater; I ended
up renting it on DVD and it was OK. But I really enjoyed reading
this script (I can't believe I just said that). There are a lot
of questions to be answered too. Will Natalie get married with
her man who she just moved in with? (NOT TELLING). Would Natalie
break up the Angels and bring in a NEW one? (NOT TELLING). This
is what makes the script funny at times cause it drives Dylan
nuts. I found a lot of the 1st CA in this script too, which is
good cause there was a lot of action scenes. For example we have
a chase scene that looks kind of interesting, same thing as the
1st CA (F1 Formula chase scene) but with MOTORCROSS bikes in a
full house stadium and of course who's involved? THE THIN MAN!!
Speaking of which, THE THIN MAN has a heart. He actually
has a good side, which comes to a shock to the Angels, you'll
see. I hope they do keep a scene where Alex plays a dark haired
dancer at a strip club. But don't hold your breath.
I
want to see how they pull off the final scene, which takes place
in LAS VEGAS and involves Natalie and the villain going head to
head on a F-18. TOP GUN anyone? With all the CGI that is going
on in movies today, they should pull this off.
Overall this script written by
John August, has Director McG's name all over it. It's a fast
pace script full of action, comedy and romance. I just think it
needs a little bit of touching up on the ending though, they can
make it better. Fans who enjoyed the 1st Charlie's Angels, you
wont be disappointed with HALO. I hope McG doesn't do MATRIX style
in any of the fighting scenes. Hope they stick to something like
BLADE 2. Man did that kick ass. I'm afraid of how he's going to
do SUPERMAN. Good luck with that one.
If you were disappointed by the
fact that there were no cameos in the first Charlie's Angels film
by any of the stars of the classic 70's television series, you're
in for a treat.. This draft features a cameo appearance by KELLY
GARRETT aka Jaclyn Smith.
