Alia Shawkat Maeby A Runaway By El Mayimbe on June 29, 2009 LatinoReview.com has exclusively learned that Arrested Development alum Alia Shawkat (who played Mae "Maeby" Funke in the popular series) has joined the cast of THE RUNAWAYS as the 18 year old bass player ROBIN. Tall and slender, Robin is the oldest and most feminine of the band. Now, we all know that Micki Steele (who went on the join THE BANGLES) was the original bass player who then got replaced by Peggy Foster for a hot second and then finally by Jackie Fox. Remember that THE RUNAWAYS were a five member girl band. I'm thinking that the film production probably did not secure the permission of Micki Steele to use her name and or likeness, so the writer/director came up with the essence of Micki by creating the character ROBIN. That is at least what I got from reading this very solid script. Current shooting around Los Angeles and starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, THE RUNAWAYS is slated for release sometime in 2010 and is definitely one of my must watch movies of next year.
