An American Remake Of The Korean Horror Movie The Host
By George 'El Guapo' Roush on November 19, 2008
From Sci Fi Wire comes news of an American remake of The Host. A pretty good monster movie if you haven't rented it:

Bong Joon-ho, director of the Korean-language monster movie The Host, told SCI FI Wire that Universal Studios will remake the film for American audiences and that he hopes they do the original film justice. The studio has purchased the rights to The Host, which centers on a dysfunctional family that must overcome its differences to save its daughter, who's been grabbed by a creature that an unresponsive government declares is the host of an unidentified virus. The film, which was a huge hit in Korea and Asia, opened March 9 in limited release in North America and made $314,488 on 71 screens, a healthy per-screen average of $4,429, the BoxOfficeMojo.com Web site reported.

"Maybe three or four years down the line, if The Host [remake] comes out, and there's a cool director who takes it on and makes it a real great film, then I'd be very happy," Bong said in an interview, through a translator. "On the other hand, if it's just crap, I think I'd be happy, too, because then people would be like, 'Oh, yeah, Bong's original was really good.' So, for me, it's a win-win situation. But Universal has a tradition of doing horror and creature films, so I anticipate that they will do a great film."

Didn't we already see Cloverfield? Wait, that's a different monster movie.

I'm so bored of reading about re-makes everyday. Why can't people just watch the originals and be frigging content. I'm still depressed over Oldboy.
Where's the originality?

Thats what happens when writers lack originality. They rip-off another movie and try to milk it till the titties go dry. Personally the Asian/oriental movie industry have the best originality when it comes to movies then the U.S. just buys it and hacks to nothingness by putting out 8 sequels. The travesty.
another remake...

This was an o.k. movie that was a little funny and not really scary.... BUT a remake WHY????????? How bout remaking Jaws or E.T or Close Encounters or American Graffiti with an urban flava!!!! Remakes are getting out of hand already. some international movie gets it right and we have to remake it! WTF? By that guideline wheres the remake of "Life is Beautiful" or Amorres Perros?

For god's sake, another remake of an Asian film? That in itself has become such a cliche, you'd think they were crapping these out just to annoy me--er, us.

This movie is way too cool to be butt raped by Hollywood ! Let me guess....this will be changed to 5 "really deep" teens battling their demons of when to get Jamba Juice when all the sudden a monster shows up. My guess is that you would find more emotion in a McDonald's commercial then a Holywood remake of this. Leave the original be !
NOOO! NOT AGAIN!

Again, Boringwood is taking a great movie from the East and making a terrible remake.
