Blade Runner Sequel News.
By George 'El Guapo' Roush on September 29, 2008
Continuing today's theme of stupid news pieces, a couple of sources have an article about a sequel that is being worked on to Blade Runner. Why anyone on the planet thinks a sequel to Blade Runner is a good idea is beyond me, but I gave up on this town years ago. Now it's more fun just reporting news on how stupid they make themselves look. But I remember reading about talk of a sequel ever since the original film came out in theaters when I was a kid, so the sequel rumors have been going on for over twenty years.

From Slashfilm, or /film or however they spell it:

“I recently attended a Q&A session with one of the writers of ‘Eagle Eye’ after a free screening organized by the magazine Creative Screenwriting. During the Q&A, the writer said that he and whomever it was that helped him co-write the ‘Eagle Eye’ screenplay were in the process of writing a sequel to Blade Runner, and had already contacted the producers of the original, etc., etc. This is probably a load of empty words/wishful thinking on his part, but I for one am appalled by just the notion of a Blade Runner sequel, and thought you’d be as well, so I thought perhaps you’d like to look into this yourself and perhaps use your soapbox to get some fanboys a little pissed, as well. If not, then at least you have a scoop.”

Okay first of all, lets make sure we know who exactly we’re talking about. The screenwriters in question are not Alex Kurtzman or Roberto Orci, but instead Eagle Eye co-writer Travis Wright (who was at the event) and his Eagle Eye co-writer John Glenn.

More news from Judao:

It’s true, folks! Hot source on the project states that Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner sequel is in the works under the command of veteran producer Bud Yorkin. Top screenwriters John Glenn and Travis Wright (Eagle Eye)

Yorkin already mentioned that if the green light is given, he’ll bring back stars Harrison Ford, Hutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah.

How the fuck can you bring back those 3 stars for a sequel??? Blade Runner is my all time favourite movie. This is the one movie imo that doesn't need a remake or a sequel. Will be a sad day if this gets greenlit.

I have no problem with a new film set in the Blade Runner 'universe' as it can comfortably stand alone from the original and not detract from it (we all survived Soldier by the skin of our teeth!) But bringing back the original cast, older, is trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice. It simply can't work and I'm not sure they'd do it! It took 25 years to get the first film right! If the sequel is anything like the first, I'll be 60 by the time they get a definitive version of BRII, probably finished by Ridley Scott in his new replicant body!!!
Hell Yeah!

Why the hell is no one rioting through the streets yet!?! I love Blade Runner and if Ridley Scott directs, it would be an awesome sequel! I would love to see Harrison shoot a replicant with today's special effects! I personally can't wait!
Ha!

I don't mind the idea of a sequel or prequel to this movie. The original is more an influential art piece than anything. Leave the original cast out, though. Too much time has passed, and new characters are needed.
errr... replicants age?
Commented By: Migwit on 2008-09-30 06:37:18
OK...so Rutger Hauer and Darly Hannah Characters were replicants, and (according to Ridley Scott) so was Harrison Fords. Apart from two of the characters being dead by the end of BR, how will they try and explain why they have aged? Absolutely stupid idea. Why don't they just remake it? Ashton Kutcher as Deckard would be a good bet for casting!

unless ridley scott is back to direct, and the visual style is as good as it was before, a sequel is pure shit. and rutger hauer is a terrible actor, find someone else to replace him
Ridley doesn't do sequels!

Maybe David Fincher could be persuaded to direct!
Hell No

No they should not make a sequel. it was done right the first time or at least one of the times it was released on DVD. While I am sure the special effects would be awesome. It would fall flat like the Star Wars prequels...

Ok, all 3 are too old to bring back???? No one would make a relicant that looks 50+ years old???
good luck...

guys, there's gonna be no original line up of either actor's or makers of this movie present in the sequel if its ever made. thats just a realistic perspective on things. its gonna deal with issues that either begin to worry us today, or simply build on what was left over on the last one, and i can't seem to find any. and rutger huer is a terrible actor? are you outta your motherfuckinmind??? whatever mate, suck it up, you know he's terriffic.
Everything is fine

I thing Holywood is good at making old actors yong :). GO FOR IT. There's plenty of left over on the first one that could revive everything and make a second movie a huge hit.
