Today at the IDW Comics panel at WonderCon, they discussed the Transformers, G.I. Joe and Star Trek prequel comics. When it came time to talk about Star trek's prequel comics, they were talking about how the Next Generation cast plays an important role in the story of the prequel and that in the last issue, (issue 4 I believe) it ends in a major cliffhanger with Nero that leads right into the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie.
"The end of issue 4 is a cliffhanger and is going to continue in the first few minutes of the movie."
Right after that was said, another writer (or artist) said that part of the movie will take place with the Next Generation cast crew and to look out for that. Another guy on the panel gave him a quick "uh oh" look and smiled.
After that, someone from the audience asked "So are members of the Next Generation cast in the new Trek movie?" to which the same guy replied, "I really cannot say anything about that."
Oops! I think you already did! Here's the clip of the writers talking about the comic prequel and Next Gen's role in it. Sorry the audio is so low. Most of them didn't talk into the mic.
So that's news to me. I never thought of J.J. Abrams tying in the Next Generation cast to this remake of the Trek universe. Do the Next Generation guys have something to do with Nero's appearance as the villain in the new Trek movie? Because Nero is a character in the prequel comics with the Next Generation cast.
Does the cliffhanger and the beginning of the Trek movie involve the Next Generation cast? And who in the cast would return?
I video taped the panel, so look for that soon. For now, it's debate time! Did J.J. put characters from Next Generation into the beginning of his Trek movie?
Boldy go and

Captain Data
Commented By: Ambassador Spock on 2009-03-01 18:34:01
The Star Trek Countdown comic series prominently featured Data. The android is now the Captain of NCC-1701-E. It would be logical to assume Data will make a cameo in the Star Trek movie.

Data is in the comics as the Captain of the Enterprise (the comics are set about 60-80 years in the future from the TNG timeline) so it's logical (ha) to expect that he may well be in there.......

You guys are just now reporting this? The writing team AND Abrams have publically stated in quite a few interviews that it's a time-altering storyline that links to the original, not a reboot. Why do you think Nimoy is in it? It's amazing how people miss what's right in front of them.

When has it ever been mentioned that the Next Generation cast could be in the movie by Abrams or the writing team?

Other than Nimoy, who's not a TNG character, no one familiar from the 24th century will be in the movie. Sorry.

Yeah, reading the comics and JJ knowing how disappointed everyone was in the first movie, my bet is that we see a glimpse of Data as Captain of a Post-Nemesis Enterprise

If the TNG timeline still exists after this movie, i\'ll be shocked
Commented By: Clem on 2009-03-02 06:50:55
Nero is playing with the timeline like a small child plays with it's food. If the timeline is even remotely similar after this movie is done, it'll be a minor miracle.

...and once again we get a time travel plot. It is probably some kind of copy of "The New Voyages" where there is a plot to go back in time and kill Kirk or something. Now all wee need are a few alien Nazi's. Or better yet, some alien Borg Nazis. Ungh, I was so hyped for this one too.

Don't fall for JJ's Crap. He knows you guys are looking for something and he sure as hell is going to release false info at every opportunity. Did the guy slip up or was he suppose to make it look that way? Who know's and who cares. I will just wait for it, after all it's never going to be as good or as Bad as this divided group thinks.

If TrekMovie wants to debunk this story the way they are they should actually look at the video and say to the artist and writers that they are wrong and not Latinoreview. TrekMovie is 100%???? or the writers and Artist????

Listen to the clip.
Commented By: Josiah Rowe on 2009-03-02 16:47:10
Listen to the second clip, folks. The comic writers and artists don't say that there are TNG *characters* in the movie, they say that part of the movie takes place in the TNG *universe*. That clearly means that it's in the TNG timeframe. Nobody (except George) said that the movie will have anyone from the TNG *cast* in it.

He said
Commented By: El Guapo on 2009-03-02 17:06:16
"Part of the movie takes place with the NG crew." So he said crew, not cast. And I NEVER said anyone from TNG cast WILL be in the movie. Don't put fucking words into my article, pal. You sound like trekmovie.com when you do.

If you won't answer someone's question (despite how they're asking it), then go troll elsewhere or I'll just delete all of your comments. Trekmovie hasn't debunked anything when no rumor was ever started by me to begin with. Perhaps if I had said the cast was in the new movie with nothing else behind the statement, then sure. But I didn't. All I did was write down what the artists said on the panel with the video proof to back it up, and questioned if what they did was mess up and reveal a spoiler. So how is that me starting a rumor that gets "debunked"? I double checked my punctuation and spelling, so hopefully you'll be able to answer the question.

What the -
Commented By: Craig on 2009-03-03 04:41:28
It amazes me how fans can get so crazy and attack writers when they are in fact only REPORTING on what has been said. For the record El Guapo never said TNG cast were in this movie, he simply asked the question.
That said, I personally think it would make total sense to have at least Picard and/or Data in the opening few minutes of this film. After all the movie does start during the Next Generation timeline - as Trekmovie were quick to point out. It would only serve to aid the plot if Picard and/or his crew were somehow involved in sending Spock back. And lets face it, that would take all of five minutes to do on screen.
So stop bitching and whining, because if we know anything about JJ Abrams, we know he definately isn't going to show his full hand until the movie hits theatres anyway!

What does it matter, for god sake? I Love star trek...yes, but is it worth slagging each other off? This is why star trek fans have a bad name, cause most of them take it too far, if you think the movies going to be crap then dont go, who the hell cares what you write on here, you opinion means nothing, going to the cinema to pay to watch it does. Grow up!

Yeck!Yeck! Yeck!...until u die
Commented By: Captain Trek on 2009-03-06 08:36:21
Just wait 4d movie to be released then watch it and rate it however u want. You can only believe something till you actually see it for yourself. Let the all the debunking, theories ,comments on cast or crew and timeline about the movie take a nap. You guys are not the centre of the universe! There's always a hype hovering around a movie for purely commercial reasons. As far as directors are concerned, even the best directors can spoil a film. It depends on how they think it should be made. We all have different views and opinions on what makes a movie excellent and entertaining - depending on your background and culture. I have been a cult-fan of Star Trek since I watched it the first time on the tele during the early 70's. I must admit though the movie versions of STNG hasn't been that good as compared to STFG. But, it's not going to be easy making a movie like STAR TREK which has a cult following like no other tv series around the world that I know of. However, it's relevance, influence and achievements is undeniable to any tyro. STAR TREK created profound and significant impact on matters regarding our real world and our humanity as a whole. Counting the tv series and the number of films on STAR TREK, I don't think there has been any other "titled" tv series or movie which continues to create such a phenomenon for more than 50 years. Its relevance is evident more so now than ever as mankind searchers for answers to the mysteries and the mysterious in our universe. Whether you call yourself a TREKKER or TREKKIE and non-TREK fans, it doesn't matter a BLIP! The whole world - every nation, every human being, every idea, every imagination, each invention and corresponding innovation is already on a TREKKING journey looking for the brightest STAR to shine themselves. STAR TREK is not a destination like other movies or series out there - when reality sets in, you know inside you that it's really all about the, "JOURNEY" - ' to boldly go where no movie has gone before'...
To all Star Trek fans and critics out there, the message is - BEAM UP! and get ready to ENGAGE!

TNG is stupid
Commented By: Joey on 2009-03-08 21:56:15
stupid question. Who wants the crappy TNG crew in a prequel of the original Star Trek? Idiots. How is data in it when he is dead? He died in last movie? The Next Generation is after Capt Kirk people, why would we want them in it? Picard is garbage. I original star trek characters only. I hate TNG. Pircard is weak. Sorry arse got Data and Kirk killed saving his sorry excuse of a capt arse.
