Bruno Mancakes His Way To A #1 Box Office Debut

By George 'El Guapo' Roush on July 12, 2009
While not as big of a debut as Borat, when you compare it to the number of screens (Borat did $26.5 million and only opened in 837 screens compared to Bruno's 2,756.) Bruno still came out on top with $30.4 million estimated dollars for the weekend. I don't think the marketing for Bruno has been as strong as Borat, plus the midwest and all of the other redneck states have issues with anything that might be considered queer even if it's not real. I have no proof to back that last statement up, I just thought I'd generalize an entire population of people.

Ice age proved to have some legs. It beat out that crappy Transformers movie earning $28.5 million. Transformers, now that everyone has seen it, has now earned $339 million domestic dollars with $24.2 million of that coming from this weekend. Revenge of the Fallen has now become the example for future civilations who look back on this generation as proving that we were fucking retards.

The rest of the films kind of did as expected, but newcomer I Love You, Beth Cooper took a big old dump and only earned $5 million it's debut week. I seriously don't think I even saw a trailer for this thing. I hate it when a studio gives up on a picture before its release, but why waste the marketing dollars if you think it's a stinker.

The Hangover is still doing amazing business in its 6th week, earning $9.9 million.

But none of this matters, because next week is the release of the highly anticipated sixth installment of HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER! HARRY POTTER!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!
