Chris Pine Is Capt. Kirk Officially

By Kellvin Chavez on October 15, 2007

About five days ago THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER had said that Chris Pine was in discussions to star as Captain Kirk in Paramount's "Star Trek" and in negotiations to star opposite George Clooney in Joe Carnahan's adaptation of the James Ellroy crime novel "White Jazz."

According to Director Joe Carnahan on his blog site, Pine has chosen to 'boldly go where no man has gone before'

Here is what Carnahan had to say:

The young man playing Junior Stemmons has opted to 'boldly go where no man has gone before' and thus, had to bow out of WHITE JAZZ. I've been talking to him this past week and knew how tough the decision had to be for him. I don't envy ever being in that spot but I gave him my full support, even if it meant he didn't do JAZZ. I get it. You don't get opportunities like that often and I told him as long as he could control as much of that process as possible and not get sucked into doing lesser sequels as a result of taking this gig, then good luck and God bless.

We're sure to do something down the road. I've already slotted him in for KILLING PABLO.

Already on the Starship Enterprise crew for Paramount are Anton Yelchin as the young Chekov, the Russian-born navigator; Zachary Quinto as the young Spock; and Zoe Saldana as the young Uhura, the communications officer; Eric Bana as the film's villain, Nero and John Cho as Hikaru Sulu.

Star Trek is due to hit theaters on December 25th 2008.
