George Clooney is in negotiations for the lead role in Alexander Payne's dramedy "The Descendants," which follows "a wealthy landowner who takes his two daughters on a search for his wife's lover in the hopes of keeping his family together."
OK, two big reasons to be excited here. First, there's Alexander Payne. From "Election" to "Sideways," the guy makes great, character centric human comedy-dramas, and this sounds right up his alley.
Second is Mr. Clooney himself. I can't think of another actor who has associated himself with project after project of such outstanding quality. He's definitely one movie star who is not taking the easy pretty boy route. I mean, look at the three films he has set for release in these last few months of 2009: "Fantastic Mr. Fox," "The Men Who Stare at Goats" and "Up in the Air." They all look great, and more importantly, interesting and original. [OK Mr. Clooney is that enough? I'll take that burger now please, as per our discussion].
