Comic-Con Report 2007: Marvel Films Panel
By Ryan 'The Rican with the Irish name' McLelland on July 28, 2007
Irish Rican here...
This was the first ever Marvel Panel here at Comic-Con and there were only two movies covered: The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man. Since Incredible Hulk just started shooting they had no footage so all we had was Iron Man stuff. And since they showed Iron Man earlier at the Paramount Panel, there was nothing truly new.
But who cares when Edward Norton and Liv Tyler walks into the room (with producers Gail Anne Hyrd, Avi Arad, Kevin Feige, and director Louis Leterrier. They showed the concept art for what the Hulk will look like…he looked like one MEAN MOFO but he had Peter Parker’s emo-hairdo.
Feige said that Incredible Hulk will be part one of a whole new Hulk saga launching into a whole new franchise.
Ed Norton revealed, “I came into this and wrote the screenplay. I was a Marvel kid – had subscriptions to a lot of the comics. I loved the early Hulk comics and the TV show. Loved the Bruce Jones stuff,” – that he did with John Romita Jr starting in 2002.
Leterrier said that this film would have a dedication for the deceased Bill Bixby and would have lots of homage to the old TV show as well.
It is sort of revealed that the movie could be some sort of hybrid of the old television show and some of the Bruce Jones comics. There will also be references to different Marvel Universe characters in the flick as well. The film does revolve around finding a cure for Bruce Banner.
Norton also reveals that he’ll get to play both Bruce Banner and the Hulk even though the Hulk is a CGI monster. “What sold me on it early was…once the Hulk pops out does that take me out of the picture as an actor? …I’m getting to play both halves of it.”
As for Iron Man I’m at the roundtables right now so we’ll get more of what the actors of the film think including Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey, Jr., Terrence Howard, and producer Kevin Feige.
They did show the footage again and it was AMAZING. The actors saw it for the first time themselves and they were STUNNED. THE CROWD APPLAUDED! Iron Man flew through the sky next to F-14s.
Leslie Bibb played a reporter. We saw the old school grey bulky Iron Man suit. Black Sabbath BOOMED with Iron Man. Favreau played a driver. One big fun origin story. Jeff Bridges bald. The footage was pretty draw dropping but its already been told before…I’ll be back with new quotes later!
