A red band promo trailer for "Crank: High Voltage" has hit the net via a site called Intralink. The film stars Jason Statham, Amy Smart, Dwight Yoakam, Efren Ramirez, Clifton Collins Jr., and Bai Ling.

Crank: High Voltage is due out in theaters on April 17th 2009.
In this high-octane sequel, hitman Chev Chelios' (Statham) launches himself on an electrifying chase through Los Angeles in pursuit of the Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart.
"Crank: High Voltage" is written and directed by Neveldine/Taylor, the duo behind the 2006 hit film "Crank," and the upcoming "Game" starring Gerard Butler.

THen there's the fear that he instills in all mankind, always entertaining to watch, always a reason to rewind.

This is proof that people will do anything to try and make a buck. It looks horrible. Seems to me that took a cool idea and then threw it on the ground and trashed it to all hell! I question the intelligence level of any idiot who actually wants to see this.

Some people are taking this way too seriously. It's called plot mechanics and suspension of disbelief. Like, 80% of movies are based on it. If you never watched a movie that wasn't believable, you'd never watch movies. Chill out and take it at face value. It's going to be USDA prime cut Statham ass-whuppin on steroids. Ridiculous, gratuitous, fabricated and AWESOME. You want real? Watch the discovery channel. You want awesomely entertaining? Get drunk in the theater parking lot and watch Crank 2 and get the humbug rod out of your ass.

Don't get me wrong here - I think Crank is one of the best movies of all time. Everything about it was groundbreaking and inspiring. Having said all that, this sequel looks like it's going to be a substandard piece of trash designed to financially capitalize on the success of Crank. I really, really hope that isn't the case but based on this trailer it looks very... uninspired.

I rather enjoy “Quality Cinema†(everyone has their own definition). I also enjoy going to movies like this because it’s more like escapism for me. Sure what he does can’t happen, sure it’s fake, sure there is no way he could have survived the fall……SO WHAT, it looks like a hell of a lot of fun. If you don't like it then don't go see it.

There is a difference between quality cinema and escapist fun. This is escapist fun. Enjoy it as such. Stop wishing that it was something that it isn't. If you want quality cinema, there are plenty of quality, artistic movies playing right now. There always are. Some people want to see those sometimes, and some people just want escapist entertainment sometimes. It's nice to have both.
