Dark Knight Fans Want Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie in Next Batman Movie

As the Dec. 9 DVD release of "The Dark Knight" approaches, fans have casting picks for director Christopher Nolan should he create another Batman film. According to a survey conducted by Blockbuster Inc., movie fans are hoping to see Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie play starring roles. The villains that fans would most like to see Batman take on are The Riddler and The Joker's therapist turned girlfriend Harley Quinn.
"Both Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie are actors who can bring a Batman villain to life in the complex, realistic style that have made Nolan's films so popular," said Keith Leopard, director of film product for Blockbuster Inc. "It would be exciting to see what they could do with The Riddler's compulsive clue-giving and Harley Quinn's transformation from brilliant therapist to psychotic criminal." Other top picks from movie lovers for the next Batman film's villains were Cat Woman, The Penguin and tough guy Bane. Favorite actors to play roles like these included Natalie Portman, Edward Norton and Keira Knightley. Until a new movie is created, fans can get their Batman fix by heading to a local BLOCKBUSTER(R) store or visiting Blockbuster.com to rent or buy the "Dark Knight" DVD on Tuesday, Dec. 9. "The Dark Knight" is currently the highest grossing movie of 2008 in North America and worldwide, and it is the second highest grossing movie of all time domestically. These are brainless followers of celeb-u-tards. Nolon cast Heath Ledger as the Joker. Before anyone saw the movie, who thought that was a good casting choice? Nobody, or at least they were slightly skeptical. Nolan is going to pick someone outside the box. Depp is the "safe choice", which is off considering the outsider status he once enjoyed. Now, amazingly enough, he's mainstream.

It's a little to highschool to assume that mainstream automatically translates to low-quality. Nolan's going to pick the best actor for the role, I doubt he thinks to hard about who's 'underground' enough for his movie.

Don't care for the top 5 in the casting choices list. At least not for this Batman franchise. 6 to 10 however...great, great choices. (Of course, Spacey is an impossible candidate for obvious reasons.) Day-Lewis as the Riddler??!!

C'mon, Depp is the safe choice! He's the choice of an intereferring studio, he's the choice of a band wagon fan! As much as i respect the actor, as a Batman fan of 20yrs, i don't want to see him playing the Riddler!...Not for one second is Nolan or would Nolan cast Depp or Jolie...& i would put a ton of money on it.
Personally i would love to see Eva Green as Catwoman and some one like John Malkovich as the Riddler, set a few yrs after The Dark Knight, with much of the criminal underworld now over-run and made up of crazies. With mention and small cameos of Batmans lesser known rogues.

Depp could play Harley Quinn and Jolie could play The Riddler for all I care. They're both excellent actors, as was Ledger. There's enough oddball villains in the Batman universe for Depp to play one, though he's played so many eccentric characters now that there may be little cache in casting him for that reason. Jolie would be a good choice, but there are others who could do it. Emily Blunt could be interesting; Eva Green as well. There's something unsettling about Green's eyes that could work to her advantage. Above all else though I would like to see Harley Quinn before we see Catwoman. Give Harley a chance.

The way I see it, Depp's a chameleon and could easily fill in the role of the Riddler...Jolie on the other hand only ever plays one character, the femme fatale...which isn't a bad thing except these films have integrity and there isn't enough room for Jolie and her tabloid followers. She's not even that attractive, those lips would give Selena Kyle away in a second. I vote either Eva Green or Emily Blunt for Catwoman.

I think Amanda would be great as the "real villain" in BB3. The Riddler would just be bait for the trap. I could see Rutger Hauer returning to help her pursue Batman.
CCH Pounder from "The Shield" did the voice of Amanda in JLU... She would be great. So would Angela Bassett. Neither actress is heavy set, but they would still give great performances.

I don' think Nolan will go with any mainstream Villians. Goyer has gone on record, saying that they won't use any of the well known villians, if a 3rd goes ahead.
If they did however, I think the Riddler is the best option. Trying to keep this grounded still, He could come in as the crime slover he has portraited in the comics as of late. He could find out the true Identity of the Batman and then turn into the Riddler by playing a "game" with him.
Harley Quinn could come half way through, as her obsession with the Joker has taken her over, and she want's to see if she can corrupt the Batman like the Joker tried and failed too. Harley could think she is much smarter than the Joker, and that she could do it. As for casting, Depp is a no no. too well known and everyone will think he is Jack Sparrow. You need someone, tall, gangly, Day lewis would be perfect. And as for Harley Quinn, Trylor Howard would be perfect for the role. Small, funny and has that "look" about her.

this whole idea of rehashing the saner version of the Joker is the same idea that brought down the previous version of the Batman. Nolan wants to keep his version away from camp and closer to reality. That can be done by doing the Bane story with either Gerard Butler or Dwayne Johnson(ref. Sarge-Doom...he can play a bad guy)...both have the size to pull off a steroid enhanced assassin....beside...if you look at the plot of the the movies, he's taken a lot of the plot lines from that series...break the bat....

Black Mask was rumored to be a villian in the Dark Knight so might aswell have him in the 3rd movie. also i think Deadshot would be a good villian to hunt down batman.
remember guys lets be realistic Nolan only choose unknown actors to star in his film he does not do all this so called Hollywood casting so there will be no way Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie will star in his film

Whoever Nolan Picks will be the right choice for the role. Heath Ledger was seen as a VERY unconventional choice at the time he was cast (anyone remember all the bitching when he was first cast? I do) but Nolan proved everyone wrong.

Talia Al Ghoul is the only logical character to include in the next film, as there is no longer a love interest for Bruce and she'll also be attempting to finish what her father started. Because MCU is searching for Batman The Riddler is also a completely logical choice, and to keep the presence and leadership of the Mob in the film it would only make sense to include the Penguin as a supporting character. Those 3 characters are EXACTLY what Nolan would need to make a great 3rd film as long as he would use Talia to come back to the story of the first film and tie up any loose ends.

Remember when everybody (as in us batman fans) were skeptical about Ledger? And look how that turned out. I say pick someone totally out of left field for the villian(s). Michael Sheen, Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul Giamatti - any of those would be a perfect Riddler. Catwoman? Michelle Williams, Marion Cotillard - harder, but they can find someone. But yeah, please butt out. And please keep Depp as far as possible from the Batman series. See also - Everyone on the list.

But Batman villains come in pairs and I cant see who Nolan would tie in Bane and Ghoul together. Then again Nolan is a great mind-f__ker and would probably be able to pull it off.

With all due respect and in my humble opinion, The Joker is simply to similar to The Joker in terms of character aspects and methods to warrant an entire $200 million movie to revolve around him and because Catwoman is (a little) campy, surely Nolan would refrain from using her. As much as The Joker and Catwoman are popular choices, they are less plausible villains considering where the story would presumably go from here. Now that Batman is on the run, there needs to be a villain that can exacerbate his situation (that of being a fugitive) but can ultimately be subdued. What about the possibility of bringing The Phantasm into the fold? She not only covers two quotas: significant nemesis to the Batman and (spoiler alert) a love interest (since The Phantasm is a chick), but she also allows for the continuation of the story from TDK, where Batman has now fallen from grace in the eyes of the public and must recapture his reputation. Andrea Beaumont (The Phantasm) was a lover of Bruce's in college, her father was killed by the mob, she seeks revenge, etc... She retaliates and because she dresses and fights similar to Batman (black cloak, mask, martial arts) but kills instead of subdues, Batman gets blamed for killing mobsters and must stop her, only to find out who she really is. Of course, there would need to be a second villain further threatening the already precariously sullen city of Gotham, and who better than Hush (Bruce's old childhood friend) or Black Mask (Bruce's old business enemy) to supplement? Batman would ultimately be forced to save Andrea (ala the animated movie Batman:Mask of the Phantasm) after she goes up against either of those two in an effort to rid the city of crime herself and therefore finally fully avenge the murder of her father. Now that Rachel is gone, Bruce will need a female love interest (even if only for character development and plot thickening) and considering how dark Nolan's versions are, these two villains allow for the realistic, gritty continuation of the Batman epic while also bringing fresh characters with different motivations to the series.
The Phantasm - Kate Beckinsale, Eva Green, Angelina Jolie
Black Mask/Hush - Viggo Mortensen, Guy Pierce
But regardless of what happens, Nolan's choices of villains and actors/actresses will be the right ones.

this article reeks of the same crap joel shumacher used turn the batman franchise into a joke a decade ago. throw in as many big name actors and characters as possible and make it all retarded. what is this Batman & Robin 2?
best choices for villians are Talia and Amanda Waller. with how TDK ended, having the federal gov't come in to stamp out the vigilante problem could be very well done, balance that with Talia coming for some sort of revenge, and commissioner gordon being the only one that actually trusts batman, but can't do so publicly. don't case super famous ppl unless it works. none of the actors should outshine their characters.

For those of you that are fans of Lost, imagine Michael Emerson (character: Ben Linus) as the Riddler. Everything about him; his looks, his sociopathic nuances, and his overall quirkiness scream The Riddler. While not having the star power as some of these other suggestions, I believe his performance would be better. And isn't that the goal; to make the best movie? (or is it to make the most money?)

No one has mentioned Clayface! Could be good...with what can be done now with CGI...But...little to no CGI is what has made Nolan's films so great. I would really not even be opposed to a new villian geing created...as long as it was killer and not too cheesy. I agree with the lot of everyone here...keep the "big money" actors as far away from this franchise as possible. Care must be taken to keep this from going the way of the Schumaker films - which are a total abomination in my opinion. I would also like to get a look at Arkham Asylum in the next film. Nolan has a lot of pressure on him now...I do not envy his position. But, at the same time, we know that we can expect another home run as long as he is in charge of this franchise. No one want's to see Johnny Depp as the Riddler that would be dum. instead WB needs to go with the best choice for the role which is David Tennant. the Doctor Who actor as the best quallity to play the role. Also the addition of the english accent is an awsome idea he could play the part to all Fans liking. He is the riddler and no one esl will do. The idea that Edward Nigma is a game show host that gets caned goes on a murderous rampage with riddles is concept that I think works. and while He is the game show host he wears the green suit with the questionmark tie is a good idea. Then later in the film he wears something more up to date I just think that would be cool. But I do know this as a fact the fans do not want Johnny Depp any where near the Dark Knight to do so would surly kill the Trilagy Just like adding Arnold did David Tennant is what The Dark Knight returns needs some will disagree but this is one thing that remains Johnny depp will kill DC hopes saling any movies if they do that
