For those of you clamoring for Avengers news, I guess Eva Longoria walked out of Marvel Studios holding some Avengers comic books. This is immediately sparking rumors that she will be playing The Wasp, or she likes to read things with pictures because her simple mind can't digest complex storylines without illustrated assistance.
I really hope this isn't true. Not because of Eva's participation, but because The Wasp is a lame character and I really don't see why they would put her in The Avengers Initiative movie (The Avengers Initiative may be the movie title, not simply The Avengers). Same thing with Ant-Man. Still, the first Avengers group had The Wasp so this rumor could have some legs to it. She actually looks the part so this casting makes sense.
Click the pic below to see more pics of Eva walking around holding comic books.
What do you guys think? Want to see The Wasp on the big screen?

"...or she likes to read things with pictures because her simple mind can't digest complex storylines without illustrated assistance."
I really hope you're being sarcastic with this statement. Plenty of comic books are far from "simple".

Casting Eva in this role is nothing short of brilliant, however, I still think the movie over-all is going to a astronomical challenge to translate to the silverscreen.

i second the boring character vote. seriously, what kind of storyline could marvel come up with (FOR A MOVIE) where saving the day meant shrinking yourself down to the size of a bug...? i get the whole supporting character, original avenger thing... but i'll be damned if i support any movie where the boobies get smaller!!

The only female character in that particular issue is Maya Lopez, aka Echo, born deaf able to copy any physical movements she sees... think the Monica Dawson character from Heroes.

I have to say that Wasp is a staple member of the Avengers... for a long time reader it wouldn't be the same without her. Plus, there's a lot they can do with the Pym relationship.
Plus, there pretty much has to be a female on the team. And unless they throw in Black Widow or She-Hulk (which I would love), Wasp is pretty much the go-to girl.

It seems reasonable that if she were given a comic book so she can either research her character or she if she wants to play it at all, it would stand to reason that they would give her an issue with the character in question in it. Plus, a ballet dancing, race car driving, piano playing, parcours running, butt kicking insta-martial artist would work much better on the screen than a mini bug zapper in reverse.

ethnicity?

Wasn't the Wasp of Asian heritage? Or will this be another Hollywood case of "aren't all ethnics the same?"

She looks the part. I don't know how well liked she will be as the Wasp. I can't remember the last time I saw Eva in a serious role... that she played well. Unless the Avengers is going to be a campy comedy (which would suck), I think it's take a bit for people to warm up to Eva as the Wasp.
