El Mayimbe here…
This piece is the end of the film and where the first HALO game begins.
For the last couple of weeks we brought you artwork for a proposed movie script and hopefully one that will be seen one day. A lot of filmmakers get storyboards, shoot trailers, and also make concept art for scripts they are looking to direct. This being HALO, I figured the fans would get a kick out of it and appreciate the fact that there is a filmmaker out there refusing to give up and see a HALO film come to fruition. We even got the attention of Microsoft so I would say it was a resounding success.
But if HALO fans really want a movie, and trust me, a lot of studios in Hollywood still want to do it…
…it’s all up to MICROSOFT. It’s honestly in their hands. The first time around, Microsoft had such unrealistic demands that not one but two studios ultimately bailed out on them.
No matter what you read, know that it was Microsoft’s fault that the movie never happened the first go around.
Who knows, maybe Microsoft is a little bit more humble this time around and from what I understand, the film based on that book by Nylund might actually be the way to go.
CLICK ON THE IMAGE FOR A HI-RES VERSION OF IT!

So stay tuned for further developments down the line.

Microsoft's fault?
Commented By: Brandon W. on 2008-09-02 20:13:06
I know Microsoft has some wicked high demands for this movie, but those demands we set to maintain the franchise. Heaven forbid you hire a director who is given enough rope to hang themselves and the project. This thing needs to be dialed in before the first frame is shot. It's imperitive that it at least follow the established timeline.
Besides, it's in Microsoft/Bungie's interest to protect their IP, and not have someone totally bastardize it.

Not MS's fault
Commented By: SuperLolCat on 2008-09-02 22:04:26
Right on Brandon W. It's not Microsoft's fault that the movie didn't get made. They set high standards to preserve the integrity of the Halo story. Fox and Universal got greedy at the last moment, and wanted more money. I think that the decision to use their preferred script and director was an ultimately good choice. In a sea of horrible video game to movie transfers, I'd rather see no movie at all then a crappy one.

I wouldn't say it's purely Microsoft's fault. I remember a while ago the Halo Movie was put indefinitely on hold, and that was simply because no-one wanted to make it...
From what we've seen of movies based upon video-games, I wouldn't say that this is necessarily a bad thing, anyway.
But beyond that, basing a movie upon a sci-fi book is an even worse idea. The movie "Starship Troopers" is probably the best example that I can think of. The majority of sci-fi movies that are based on books are nowhere near as good as their literary counterparts. Not to mention that the Halo novels weren't all that flash to begin with...

"For the last couple of weeks we brought you artwork for a proposed movie script and hopefully one that will be seen one day. "
Concept art follows a very specific format.
The style seen here looks like something off DeviantArt chucked together by someone who's never attended art school.
I love how someone says "Microsoft has high standards" but unless its' anything like the live-action trailers we've already seen, I'm worried they're going to fuck it up.

SUPER GAY!
Commented By: Paul frieling on 2008-09-03 15:17:47
These boards look like they were pulled right out of the 32 bit game, only worse. They look fucking gay and i hope this filmmaker never gets the funding. The shorts that Jackson put out looked brilliant, these look cheap and very unprofessional. Suck my balls. Dont make this movie until it has real talent behind it.

WOW

You guys are the most pessimistic bunch of assholes I've ever seen. The movie hasn't been announced, no casting has been done, not one distributor has signed on, and yet you can still trash on any information available. First of all, anyone critisizing guapo or mayimbe should be shot. They're trying to deliver you movie news and you're being disrespectful pricks about it. Accurate or not, thanks for the info Latinoreview. The movie will be well done because Joseph Staten is a perfectionist. Period.

But HL will never be created as a movie..
Commented By: dude on 2008-09-05 22:26:57
If you have played HL2 (commentary mode), you would know why HL2 cannot be created as a movie. Valve want gamers to be Gorden Freeman.. so they dont reveal appearance of Goreden and voice in the game... but if they make a movie, intention of producers is become fade... that's why HL cannot be created as a movie and novel., but HALO.. POSSIBLE.. therefore many people can wait for it.. so (in my opinion) HALO deserve to be overrated..

Commented By: Halo Fan on 2008-12-30 04:03:06
Don't render a HALO in Halo: Fall of Reach... did you even read the story? it has nothing to do with halo or the pillar of atumn until the end.. it's about Johns life and all the other spartans... jesus sure it looks cool but its wrong for a concept art of the book. GTFO! GO READ THE BOOK BEFORE YOU MAKE RENDERS OF SOMETHING

As much as I think these concept drawings are fake, Halo does appear in the book. Did you not manage to get all the way to the end?

Im so tired of people being so stupid about games being adapted into films. So what if some of them suck? Halo would be a great movie! Why would it be better for it to not bemade at all just in case it's bad? There'snothing to lose so take a chance, it just might be awesome!!!!!

Greedy Microsoft
Commented By: AñioHaseo on 2009-01-28 00:10:12
I have an idea of why Microsoft hasn't launched the Halo movie project, they are deliberately letting us to get too excited about the movie so all the movie studios can see that a Halo movie would be a hughe success (same as tons and tons of money for them) and that would cause that the studios interested in making the movie start trying to win by any possible ways the rights to make the movie, so the best offer would win = studio that lets Microsoft win the biggest amount of money from the movie. But because Microsoft is so greedy they will just wait and wait till the "appreciation " of the project satisfys its greed.
