As the net is a constantly evolving animal, Kel and I have been brainstorming for a while now on how to evolve our original content in the web 2.0 world that for many years we have been well known for, mainly our script reviews, story details, and Newsbreaks.
Everything seems to be about video these days. As our colleagues around the net have successfully become video podcasters and video bloggers, Kel and I decided to throw our hat into the video ring and get in the game by producing high quality video featurettes of our Exclusive content. I admit, I'm addicted to video podcasts. Whether it's Moreno's nutty Joblo video podcasts, Slashfilm's video blogs, Devin's appearances on AOTS, and Collider's red carpet video's, these pieces are informative, highly entertaining and addicting. I find it exciting when one of my colleagues emails or twitters me a new video piece. I mean let's face it, we're all fanboys about MOVIES - a visual medium. So it's only a natural progression for us that we bring our exclusive content to you, the readers, in a visual manner that we hope you all enjoy.
We wanted to create and produce something on the level that you would find on the behind the scenes section of a DVD. I think we've accomplished that.
With that being said, we proudly present our first video featurette which is combined effort from the entire Latinoreview team. Executive produced by Kelvin & myself, wonderfully narrated by Edgar "El Toro" Arce, masterfully edited by Stuart "La Chupacabra" Benedict, and with the words written and provided by a new story editor buddy of mine who we shall call EL DIABLO.
We would love to hear your comments, so twitter me or make your comments below on what you thought of this piece and what else you would like to see in future episodes.
It's a pretty big file, so give it a minute to load. I highly recommend that you click on the box next to the embed link and watch the featurette in all it's full screen glory...

I like it Commented By: Jonathan "No one loves Thor more than me" Marin on 2009-02-23 15:09:40 Good job but too monotone. We need some life in the commentary.
Commented By: capitan pingaloco on 2009-02-23 15:27:22 good job...looking forward to more
i hope its a hoax Commented By: Waldgeist on 2009-02-23 15:36:39 I dearly hope this story is a hoax... it sounds absolutely terrible.
I've contacted Paradox to see if any of it is true.
Commented By: Aeghast on 2009-02-23 16:28:46 neat. the video, I meant. not the movie project
oh cool Commented By: Superzero on 2009-02-23 16:37:17 I have a large collection of VERY old R E Howard Conan dime novels and a complete run of Savage Sword of Conan and I must say this review has a lot of promise. It's good to see that the writers are sticking with the born on the battlefield origin. Frost giants would be nice.
Go Back To The Older Format Commented By: cholm690 on 2009-02-23 18:56:43 I would have much rather read a script review then watched a bunch clips from the older movies.
the video -- GOOD JOB... Commented By: soda989 on 2009-02-23 19:14:08 as for the Conan movie... only time will tell.
Unoriginal Commented By: garzo on 2009-02-24 08:10:46 The magic of Conan came from Robert E. Howard's stories and his writing. Why not base the script on some of his stories rather than this unoriginal take? Father-Son relationship? Prophesy of the Chosen One? Father and all Cimmerians killed? Conan as the Last Son of Cimmeria, out to avenge his people? Didn't we see that in the Schwarzenegger movie? It sounds terrible and trite. Just adapt the Howard stories chronicling Conan's youth and first adventures. There's enough info to fill in earlier scenes, such as being born on the battle field and all that, but that should really be in some opening montage or perhaps told in narration -- it doesn't have to be central to the film. Again, we saw a very similar opening in the John Milius film. Conan is not about vengeance, it's about adventure, plunder, and sex -- fortune and glory! It should be more Indiana Jones and less Kill Bill. No one ever destroyed Cimmeria. Conan often returned to his native country during his travels. The film should follow Conan's wanderings, his robberies, his conquests, his brief career as a buccaneer -- it could be a globe-spanning adventure that takes him from the snowy mountains to great ancient cities, to the mysterious and ancient deserts and to the beautiful but dangerous tropics. . . Scrap this script and start over. Or let me do it!
Great Job...I Want More! Commented By: Torin on 2009-02-24 09:32:03 I thought that you guys did a great job with this. I'll admit that I'm lazy when it comes to reading reviews, so this is perfect for me. I'd love to have El Guapo do some of the dialogue for future videos because I love the way his personality translates in his posts, so hearing him rant would be hilarious.
Nice!! Commented By: David on 2009-02-24 11:22:06 Great Job really enjoyed it looking forward to future editions...
No thanks Commented By: Paul on 2009-02-24 11:44:29 Actually, I like reading script reviews. Give me the video if you must, but give me something to read, too. This didn't do anything for me.
Transcript? Commented By: Jeff on 2009-02-24 11:47:57 Great idea and it looks terrific, but I'm sure there's a lot of people like me who would rather just be able to read the review, instead of having to wait for commercials and then watch a whole video. I think it'd be perfect if you had both options available for us!
Transcript? Commented By: Jeff on 2009-02-24 11:49:17 oh and by great idea i'm talking about your video featurette, not the conan movie (which might be great, but i didn't watch enough of the video to have an opinion yet)
I\'d prefer they tapped Howard\'s stories... Commented By: -=Shin=- on 2009-02-24 11:52:08 Why call is Conan if the story is changed so much? This seems like something we should have learned from all the misfires of earlier superhero films. They tend to better when they adhere to the storylines that made them different. The low fantasy of Conan is really different and unique. And while Conan is no villain, he's a bit more self serving in his early days, and that helps make the character something special. Making him another guy out to get revenge for the death of his people sort of takes away that weird, ubermensch/Niezchian (sp?) superman aspect that Howard was working into the character. If you want a more morally driven character derived from a dead people, make a Kull movie. You can even use Thulsa Doom, since he was originally a Kull adversary.
More Hollywood drek! Commented By: Beloso on 2009-02-24 12:51:32 This does not look good for the franchise.
What happened to all the promises to stick to the original material?
If you're not going to give props to Robert E. Howard's stories, then why bother calling it "Conan"?
Nice Work Commented By: Gordon on 2009-02-24 13:02:13 As always, your script review is entertaining, insightful, big-hearted and non-cynical. The visuals looked great - lots of fun seeing the cool art work.
I think the script reviews are my favorite part of the site, and the main reason I come to Latino Review. The video should help make the reviews more accessible and boost their popularity. I agree that it's a tad monotone - er, more than a tad - but it still held that intelligence that I've come to expect from Latino Review.
Great Job! Commented By: J-Critt on 2009-02-24 13:03:28 The visuals and descriptions were right on. You guys went above and beyond reporting, you created your own news brief. I'm now definitely looking 4ward to this flick. Provided Ratner is not the man behind the camera. Again, great job on the featurette.
Great Job Guys! Commented By: Adam on 2009-02-24 13:37:01 Really Great Review and great job on the first video review. Keep them up!
Excellent Video Reiview, Love the new format Commented By: ganymede2010 on 2009-02-24 13:38:54 This movie sounds like it's going to kick ass. It would be awesome if Ridelly Scott or James Mangold was able to direct. Someone that can transition smoothly from the dialouge to the heavy action.
Terrible Script Commented By: Megan on 2009-02-24 14:22:07 This sounds terrible. The script not your video. Why can't they just adapt the books? This script is dripping with cheesy awfulness.
Nice work! Commented By: Peter on 2009-02-24 14:55:46 Loved the featurette. Really nice job. More!
Plot remind anyone of Scorpion King? Commented By: Oliver Queen on 2009-02-24 15:13:23 The last of his kind goes to seek revenge on an evil warlord with a dark sorceress by his side? Why not just call this Scorpion King 3?
Commented By: The Truth on 2009-02-24 16:08:31 Very well edited video, but the monotone voice over was incredibly boring and let the whole thing down. I would have prefered this as a written article.
Xenaphobia Commented By: Xenaphobia on 2009-02-24 16:25:40 I prefer reading reviews.
Can someone post a summary of the "video" review since I don't plan on watching it.
Sin Amos Commented By: Sin Amos on 2009-02-24 16:59:54 Yeah, the monotone voice over just isn't dynamic enough. Try harder to perform and make this entertaining.
CRUEL ELITISM Commented By: person on 2009-02-24 17:26:43 what about us poor schmoes without a sound card in our work computers..? And how about mutlitasking - I can't read a paragraph at a time when there's nothing to read! Its a script, too - surely text is appropriate.
Oh Crap... Commented By: Guenter on 2009-02-24 18:41:21 Nice info here but not good news.
It sounds like a they are throwing away the REH Conan for a Scorpion King/10.000 BC reinvention thats going to suck and maybe spawn a even worse sequel. I still hope they scrap Ratner and have someone who cares for the original stories write a script that even REH could have accepted (ie no origin story please, revenge on some dude killing ALL cimmerians?!?...wtf)
COOL! Commented By: 420band on 2009-02-24 18:51:35 Keep em coming guy's
CONAN aka Beastmaster3 Commented By: ElJuano on 2009-02-25 02:01:36 AWWWW c'mon, NOT staying true to REH work?? WTF is that crap?? Ummm the hell are these guys(hacks) basing the movie on then? the GAWDAWFUL cartoon??? Please get a new script THAT"S BASED ON THE ORIGINAL MATERIAL!!! Man I hope someone will read this, seriously Besides Ratner's sure fire way of screwing up all good things in God's green earth, why give this script based on Beastmaster to a couple of hacks who are too lazy obviously to pick up a Conan story and read it! Great featurette BTW!
Please add written review Commented By: garzo on 2009-02-25 05:05:13 I posted my thoughts on what sounds like an incredibly shitty script. As far as the review, I prefer reading it. I found the video distracting, irrelevant and misleading, as it made what sounds to be a terrible script appear cool. The John Milius film has nothing to do with this film, so why even garner the review with scenes of that film? It would be like intercutting a review of Chris Nolan's Dark Knight script with scenes of Schumacher's Batman and Robin. What's the point? You confuse the issue at hand, which should be the script. And a review, aside from explaining what the story is about, should offer critical analysis and opinion, both of which are lacking here.
Good work !! Commented By: Dave on 2009-02-25 07:22:14 Awesome stuff !!!!
I am really looking forward to the new Conan movie !!! Its going to be great !!!
Frost Giants too cool for Conan movie Commented By: Katie on 2009-02-25 13:22:36 This sounds terrible to be honest.
Beastmaster 3 indeed.
Marvel's Thor movie will plunder all the cool Howard ideas before Conan gets around to it and that's a shame.
Needs some work Commented By: Gaby on 2009-02-25 21:12:11 ElJuano nailed it. Im a Robert E Howard collector ( I have the Gnome Press hard covers) and there are so some good, fast paced full length stories to choose from such as: The People of the Black Circle or The Hour of the Dragon and many other short stories that can be tied together, but this scripts storyline is screwed up.
Purist Commented By: MoonlitKnight on 2009-02-28 21:24:33 Like every other REH purist who has commented I have grave misgivings about this script. As has been pointed out before there are plenty of excellent stories tro choose from...why go with the old standby cliche of the prophisized savior? Hell the Greeks did that and so does the Bible. Just once I'd like to see them stick to the REH model. Mayhem, loner, monsters, and conquest. Forget all the rest.
soplame on 2009-03-01 15:09:55 fantastic editing on the video!
Read the damn books! Commented By: Bárbaro on 2009-03-02 06:16:26 Another one spits on Robert E. Howard´s stories. At least Milius did it with style.
This is so stupid. Commented By: Mike on 2009-03-03 10:17:10 I'm glad they got new writters. This would have been a huge let down. Avenging his people's death. That's the same damn movie as the first Conan. Oh, and Robert Howard's Conan was not a womanizing barbarian. You obviously didn't read R.E.H.'s stories. Conan was extremely smart and cunning. He spoke several languages and used his wits and much as his brawn to get him out of situations. As far as womanizing ok maybe, but he did have one true love. Belit. She was killed and he would never love again. I suggest you read the stories if you are going to reference the source material. Either way this script is the old one and will never see the light of day. (Thank Crom) If anything they should make it more like the Dark Horse comics. At least they didn't change anything that Howard had done. They just built upon it. Hollywood sucks.
Commented By: REAL6 on 2009-03-05 13:28:50 SHit id wait 2 to 3 more years just to see KING CONAN with Arnold over this bullshit!!!
Heresy, by Crom ! Commented By: Michael Docherty on 2009-03-07 22:42:16 This was a fine piece of easily forgettable eye-candy - go back to the source, read some of REH's original tales and shun the all too popular Hollywood habit of screenwriters who are convinced they can improve on classic stories - And who, prey tell would play our Cimmerian hero? The actor for that role hasn't been born yet unless there's an unknown talent out there who happens to be a muscular six-foot-six with the face of a 30-year-old Jack Palance who's somehow managed to go un-noticed so far... I have been a Conan / REH fan ( and purist ) for over 40 years and believe me there's no-one who would love to see a faithful Conan film more than myself but I doubt if it will happen and if any of the stuff I've seen in recent years is anything to go by I honestly hope it will not happen- Do it well or don't do it at all and let the noble barbarian die a dignified death.
