Exclusive: News On The 1982 Remake Of The Thing

Exclusive: News On The 1982 Remake Of The Thing Today to I spoke to director Marc Abraham whose new movie, “Flash of Genius” is coming out soon. But he's not known for directing. he's know for producing. One of his future projects is a remake of the 1982 horror classic “John Carpenter's The Thing.”

I asked Marc how can you possibly top the 1982 version and whether or not it is a remake or a sequel. This was his reply:

"This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame."

So I asked him if we are going to find out the origins of the alien and it landing on earth and he said:

“These are the events leading up to the 1982 film.”

As most of you know, "The Thing" is a 1982 science fiction and horror film directed by John Carpenter, and starred Kurt Russell.

The film is about a shape-shifting alien that is revived after being frozen in ice. The alien infiltrates a scientific research station in the Antarctic and kills a Norwegian research team. A nearby American research team investigates the incident and is in turn infiltrated by the alien. Blood, gore and a head with spider legs ensue.

So this means that we get to find out what Norwegian research team went through!!

This is really exciting news as long as they get the story and casting great, this doesn’t sound like a remake but a whole new story leading up to the 1982 version.

Excited? I sure am. Unfortunately I only had a few minutes with the guy so I couldn't ask him anything else on it, but  this is pretty good news for fans of the John Carpenter version.

A horror franchise in Norwegian?????You just know they'l try to do this with a young cast and a female lead. I reckon Neil Marshall (The Descent,Dog Soldiers, Doomsday) would be a great choice for a director, 'cos he's a huge John Carpenter fan, but they'll probably hire some 2nd unit douche who' s just directed a jonas brothers video!
have u played the game george?

FrancoV, the 1982 version was simply a new version of the short story both were based on. The 1982 stayed closer to the story than the original movie.
Did you even read the article?

It does NOT appear to be a remake. It will be a prequel and I am really excited about this.

Actually, as anyone who has read the story could tell you, the original short story IS the story about the Norwegian team. It ends with them chasing the alien across the ice, which is exactly where the 1982 movie steps in.
oh no!

If they try to screw it up with a "young cast" like they did when remaking "the Fog" they might as well not bother. the thing that made the movie great is that the characters felt real, rough older men at a research facility in the antarctic. not a bunch of party of five/ 90120 rejects.
Huh ?

To Benn: Tthe original short story was "Who goes there ?" by John W. Campbell and the Carpenter version of "The Thing" is actually pretty close to the original story with some modification in the ending. What story would you be referring to ?

Hmmm... so they are remaking a remake. I guess with I am legend being a remake of a remake, they are finding other franchises to be remade for a third time.
This is not a remake

They will never top the creeping dread of the original and Kurt Russell is excellent in it.
