Exclusive: Red Princess Blues 7 Min Short!
By El Mayimbe on January 07, 2008
Happy New Year and to those in the Latino community, Feliz Dia De Los Reyes!

To commemorate Los Reyes, we decided to launch our new monthly screening series.  So, once a month we are gonna pimp a really hot short on our servers and give the short and the filmmakers the exposure it needs.

I see a lot of really dope shorts made by some talented people. Folks outside the business never get the chance to see them unless the short makes it to some local festival.  We hope to be the great equalizer and bring YOU the viewer exclusively some of the hottest material currently making the rounds in Hollywood that you will not see anywhere else.

So, if you have a really hot short…

…YO I WANNA SEE IT!

Send your submissions to lrshortsubmissions@gmail.com

Send me either a link to the short, or attach the short in a Quicktime or flash file in your submission.

Drum roll please…

EL MAYIMBE PRESENTS
LATINOREVIEW’S SHORT FILM OF THE MONTH
RED PRINCESS BLUES ANIMATED: THE BOOK OF VIOLENCE
By Alex Ferrari and Dan Cregan

Alex Ferrari first came to my attention two years ago when I saw his short BROKEN and digested the three hours of bonus material that was included on the DVD on the making of Broken.

Check it out by going HERE.

A lot of indie filmmakers make shorts or trailers to hopefully sell their features.  Michael Davis is our most famous example as he created animatics to help sell SHOOT’EM UP!  Well, Alex and his partner Dan made one hell of a kick ass JAPANESE ANIME STYLE SHORT as a prequel to his live action feature RED PRINCESS BLUES!  Alex and Dan literally made their Japanese anime short in their garage and the execution is absolutely exceptional!

Over the weekend, it was announced that 6 anime style shorts are going to be used for BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHT.  The ANIMATRIX did the same sort of thing a couple of years ago to bridge The Matrix films.  Japanese anime seems to be all the rage these days.  The fact that some indie filmmakers out of South Florida have taken the same Japanese anime route as the studios and delivered the same kind of quality is wickedly cool!

See it for yourself.  To watch the 7 minute short film click on the images below.

The file is a little big, so give it a couple of minutes to load.  Check it out because we only have the short exclusively for 30 days before it starts making the festival rounds.

The short is about “Princess,” a 12 year old girl little girl who finds herself in a strange country looking for her father.  She is taken in by a unique looking man who goes by Nino.  The short film is completely from the perspective of Princess and what she is going through.  She soon discovers the “Book of Violence” and slowly begins her journey that one day will lead to vengeance.  The short is narrated by Paula Garces.  She’s Harold crush MARIA in Harold and Kumar and she is also in the upcoming sequel Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay.

Enjoy the show!
