First Look At THE HARD MASTER From the Upcoming G.I. JOE Movie! By El Mayimbe on November 06, 2008 El Mayimbe here...   Nobody is more stoked than I am for the upcoming G.I. JOE movie. Below is a picture of actor Gerald Okamura in costume as THE HARD MASTER.  The Hard Master is the ninja master/leader of the Arashikage clan who mentors both the young Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes in the ways of the ninja.  Hard core Joe comic fans know that the Hard Master has something to do with the long standing rivalry between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.   The picture was taken outside Okamura's trailer when the movie was filming in the Downey area. The film is set in the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite co-ed GI JOE team, based from it’s headquarters The Pit, deploys the latest in next-gen spy and military equipment to fight crooked arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious COBRA organization from plunging the world into chaos.   So what do you guys think? From the casting to the costume design, I think that it stands a good chance that it's gonna be pretty lame. Consider the fact that it's slated for an August release which is the month of the summer blockbuster season that typically has the more mediocre movies of the summer. Mummy 3, Mortal Kombat, Freddy Vs. Jason, Halloween, Spy Kids 2 and Star Wars: the Clone Wars.... Don't get me wrong, I like all those movies (except for Star Wars) but the month of August clearly is the month that the studios likes to release their least bankitable films. This years Tropic Thunder was an exception. The marketing campaign was a deliberate attempt to make a hit out of that movie and releasing it in August was a master stroke, considering it came out amongst all the other lame ass titles coming out this August. Also don't forget that it's being directed by Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing, the Mummy, the Mummy Returns and Deep Rising). All movies I'm a fan of but I think you can see the kind of quality your stand in getting for this G.I. Joe movie. He's a "more is more" director and hardly gives alot of attention to character, story or narrative not to mention just plain ridiculousness. If it were opening in May or June then maybe. But Sommers hasn't done anything very well recently and he loves his movies to be over produced. I can only hope that G.I. Joe is the exception to the rule. He says that he thinks this movie isn't going to be very good, then lists reasons why he thinks it's not going to be very good... Only, the reasons he thinks it's not going to be very good sound more like reasons he's going to be a FAN of the movie. He starts listing all these crappy movies that were released in August, then says he's a fan of all but one of them! He then says that Stephen Sommers is directing it (making that seem like a bad thing), lists movies he's directed (as if they are bad movies), then says he's a fan of all of those movies!
