The Chicago Tribune received an e-mail from Harold Raamis all but confirming Ghostbusters 3:
"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we'll take it from there. best, harold
Well, this sucks. Like I mention HERE in my worst case scenario, having the older Ghostbusters mentor younger ones is just lame. I like the Apatow actors, but their type of humor doesn't fit in a Ghostbusters film. It'll just be two hours of Jonah Hill staring at green screen with his mouth open while the others swear at each other and make comments on female ghost vaginas. Plus with Bill Murray in a limited role, what's the point?
No thanks Hollywood. Think I'll pass.

Hmmm, and I suppose they'd just get the cast from Superbad or one of those other movies like that, that have been out recently. I heard talk of Seth Rogan, and while I like him. I don't really think he would make a good Ghostbuster. I don't really want to see new Ghostbusters. It'd be better to center the story around how out of shape the originals have become. Too bad I don't have a literary agent.

Better idea...

It would be better if the old Ghostbusters were retired and the film starts off with the new GBs screwing something up and the original cast came out of retirement to save the day- no one wants to see the torch passed and set up a new franchise (maybe we could do a hybrid Mutt Williams and the Ghostbusters movie!!!!)

NOOO!!

Why go this route!
I think seeing the original cast for the entire film would be so much better!! A "coming out of retirment" knind of thing would be awesome.
Anytime you have beloved classic characters replaced by new ones, it never works.
This would be like doing Luke Skywalker or Indianna Jones and having new actors play them...although I would not put that past Lucas...This would just be lame!

What made the original Ghostbusters work so well was the way all the actors worked so well together. Please don't replace them with new guys...ughh.

Don't worry.

I'm sure that they will come to their senses and realize that that is a terrible idea. Or they won't and it will suck.

FUUUUUUUUUCKKK! You can't but the Apatow idiots in a Ghostbusters movie... there's nothing like the original and never will be... it's like Shia becoming Indy... BAD FUCKING MOVE...

All of this negativity toward GB3 is quite funny, imo. I think this project sounds like a great idea, and I think that most people would actually look down on a film featuring the 'old' Ghostbusters for 90+ minutes. Just wouldn't make sense. They're too old.
Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and hell.. even Andy Samberg or Vince Vaughn would make good Ghostbusters. If done right. That's the most important part. A 'mentor' film could be done right. It's got a better shot than a straight sequel, imo.
And all you other internet geeks will be there on opening night, too.

This is ridiculous

My Ghostbusters lineup...
Owen Wilson- Comedic Relief (replacing Peter Venkman). Or Ryan Reynolds.
Will Smith- Backup Comedic Relief (replacing Winston Zeddmore)
Steve Carrell- Inventor/The Brain (Possible replacement for Egon Spengler) *picture him with glasses*
Ray Stantz (undecided- Maybe Paul Rudd?)

I wouldn't mind a new cast if done properly, but whoever said Andy Samberg needs to be dragged out into the streets and shot. Samberg himself deserves worse.

No Way

the idea of anyone but the originals being the ghostbusters is obscene it would be like making a sequal to the ten commandments with charlton heston as a bit part the original films are classics and as the saying goes "IF IT AINT BROKE DONT TRY TO FIX IT!!!!!!!!!"
