How Much Is That #1 Doggy In The Box Office Window?
By George 'El Guapo' Roush on December 28, 2008
Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston are in the #1 movie of the weekend. That is a sentence I thought I would never write and had I put money on it, I'd be shaking my head as I opened my wallet. The really sweet and fun Marley & Me was the perfect family film for Fox and made all the other movies roll over and play dead as it grabs the #1 spot with $37 million.

Adam Sandler's Bedtime Stories couldn't stay awake long enough to beat a pooch, but still came in a close and respectable second with $28 million. Meanwhile, the overrated snoozefest Benjamin Button managed to get third with $27 million. Benjamin Button is about a man born old and grows young. But it's such a long and boring film I found myself aging rapidly while watching it.

For the second week in a row, Will Smith has been seen handing out fliers that say, "Have you gained Seven Pounds? It's my new movie that stars me. Please go see it." After a long talk with his wife and Zoltar from the Nth Dimension during a Scientology seminar, Will is confident is latest movie will come back and beat all the others. It's only a matter of time and raising his Citric Acid spaceman count should help. Seven Pounds came in 6th place over the holiday weekend with $13.4 million. Jaden Smith was spotted in a grocery store with his parents, arms crossed with his lower lip out screaming, "I will not have a failure for a father!" before boot stomping his way to the magazine aisle to pick up the latest copy of My Daddy Sleeps With Men As Well magazine.

Meanwhile, the highest ranking officer in the Scientology Has Its Treasures club, or S.H.I.T., Tom Cruise, beat his wacky partner in looneyville with his Hitler bombing Valkryie coming in 4th place at $21.4 million. Yes, I round up the totals.

The Spirit tanked like the giant piece of crap that everyone says it is with a pitiful 9th place debut scraping up $6.5 million. Myself? I went and saw Gran Torino over the weekend. I actually didn't know how funny that movie was going to be. The kid actors in it are horrible, but Clint's performance was excellent and it was a really good movie so go check it out when it's available in your area.

I saw "Yes Man" and "Valkyrie". I liked the Jim Carrey comedy a lot better.

Benjamin Button is a pretty good film actually. It requires and attention span, but if you have that and some semblance of understanding; you'll have an enjoyable time.

Honestly, I'm upset with Adam Shankman, I loved Hairspray, Brining Down The House, and Cheaper By The Dozen 2. But Bedtime Stories was awful, he should have cast Steve Martin in it, instead of Sandler!
