Is Kenneth Branagh Close To Choosing His THOR?

El Mayimbe here... A short while ago, I received an email from a scooper... In it, he goes... Hey Mayimbe,
Long time reader, finally with something juicy. I had a first hand eyeball witness of Kenneth Branagh eating dinner at Blairs today accompanied by a young Blonde actor who i recognized from HBO's awesome miniseries Generation Kill that was on a year or so ago. I had no idea what his name was but I got home today and Googled him, his name is Alexander Skarsgård. I have no idea if he actually is Thor or not, maybe he's being considered, maybe he and Kenneth are just friends. However, it seems likely he is being considered since he's a young Blonde actor and seems to fit the description of the character. Two other men were with them but I didn't recognize either of them. I know it's speculative at best, even so I thought you'd wanna know. Not one to just print emails, and especially since every "Taking-a-meeting.com" story I do from now on has to be spot on in order NOT to be debunked by haters (HI HATERS! :P), Kellvin and I came up with a clever way to see if Branagh was actually there today. I won't get into details, but Kellvin succeeded and personally confirmed that Branagh was in fact at the restaurant this afternoon!
I heard rumblings around town with some of my pals about this guy, but until now I didn't have anything concrete to go on and chalked it up to mere fanboy speculation on forums. Unfortunately, I never seen an episode of Generation Kill nor True Blood but the guy does seem to fit the profile (at least physically) of what the breakdown described of Thor when Patrick at Corona Coming Attractions reported it.
I had no idea that actor Stellan Skarsgård had a son who is also an actor and stands a towering 6'4''.
Something else to consider: Both Branagh and Skarsgård are repped at the same agency.
An interesting development for sure. Kel and I coin this one as the 2nd level of a "taking-a-meeting.com" story and introduce this as a "having-a-lunch.com" story which in itself can mean nothing but more serious than your typical "taking-a-meeting.com" story since lots of Hollywood deals are brokered over lunch. Could Branagh be close to making a decision on his lead actor to play THOR? We'll all know soon enough. Hasta el proximo capitulo...

Good choice if it happens. Now the question is, if Alexander does become THOR, who will play LOKI.

Fine

I can see ALEX play the role. Pretty interesting choice. He can a fine THOR, better him than anyone from WWE, that's for sure.

THEN we're talking! c'mon the dude face wise is very close, but physically for Thor he's on the slim side. I've seen thinner dudes pull it off (adding muscle) so I think if he starts now PAYOW!!! Thor baby!

Adrien Brody for Loki!!!
Commented By: Jal Hordan on 2009-03-10 09:19:14
I've made this recommendation on other posts. Have Loki switch forms from male/female and have Brody and Ann Hathaway alternate. That would be awesomeness. Really, anyone care to disagree?

Brody

Not for nothing Jal Hordan but that's a good fucking choice for LOKI. That would be pretty cool.

I was a huge fan of Generation Kill, while my sister is addicted to True Blood. Neither of us have watched a moment of the other show.
Coincidentally, Skarsgård was my number one choice to play Captain America, while my sister has been yelling at me at every opportunity 'no, he's THOR!!!!'

hes a bit skinny, but skinny guys can get lean in a month, muscly in 2, and fairly jacked in 3 in hollywood. all it takes is a trip to GNC and 4 hrs at the gym every day. and as an actor, why not when youre prepping for a big movie and have nothing better to do?

Better as Loki than Thor
Commented By: Jason on 2009-03-10 15:07:23
His face looks little skinny and narrow for Thor. I think if you died his hair black hed be a much better Loki. Loki has more of the feminine, angular features like this guy.

FINALLY!!

Thor fans such as myself have been wanting him to get the role. Assuming it happens this is good news.
If you watch True Blood you would see that this guy is already jacked and if he puts on more even better. This is good news, VERILY!

My first choice was Leo Di Caprio, till I saw this guy on True Blood. His dad could even play Thor's father Odin, which would be totally cool. Jude Law is my first choice for Loki, Kevin McKidd as Dr. Don Blake (Thor's human alter ego). Piper Perabo as Jane Foster. Hugh Laurie as the Vizier, Tom Welling as Balder, Michael Clarke Duncan as Ulik, and The Destroyer as itself.

Good choice

I named my kid, "Loki". Believe it or not?
If you watched the latest cartoon, Hulk Vs. Thor, or the source material, The Prose Edda of Snorri Sturluson, Thor is pretty much a dumb jock/barbarian type while Loki is the genius foil to Thor's lumbering brutality, there's really not much to the Thor character other than pummeling his enemies.

Crispin Glover for Loki

He's got that sinister look of plotting....or whatever you wanna call it.

i could see him playing thor
Commented By: pip on 2009-03-10 21:40:19
and like one or two others are saying below, rather someone like him beef up than someone from WWE.
i'm pretty excited for this film, didn't realize Branagh would be directing until the other day, very interesting choice.

Thor...no, Loki..for sure
Commented By: Dragon on 2009-03-11 13:24:53
I think Alex would be ideal to play "Loki". The person you should all be looking to for "Thor" is James Preston Rogers. James recently received a request for an audition tape last week from Marvel Ent. and stands a very good chance of being chosen for the part. Check him out on Myspace or Facebook and you will see he was born to play this role.

I like it. He looks like both Don Blake and Thor, so they won't have to go the "two actors" route. They just film the Blake scenes first, have him bulk up, then film the Thor scenes.

Skarsgard as Thor - YEAH!!
Commented By: G on 2009-03-12 11:48:46
That would be AWESOME casting - he's been great on both the HBO series 've seen him in & he's a fresh face in the US. I think he'd be great and could carry it well! Please keep us posted ;)

Stellan for Odin!
Commented By: valmurph on 2009-03-12 12:19:53
Hes a great actor - as anyone who saw Generation Kill will tell you - and he certainly looks the part. As a fan of the comic I heartily approve!
Now I hope they get his dad, the great Stellan Skarsgård, to play Odin! thatd be neat casting.
But I dont buy Josh Hartnett as Odin - he can play "cool and detached" well but as an actor he always rings false to me when he tries to "emote" - and Loki is all about that creepy slimeyness. I never saw his Othello movie "O" though, howd he do as Iago? thats pretty much Loki right there.
