Another remake, but this one might actually be pretty cool. Well maybe. We already got a Hitman movie (that I enjoyed) so another hitman film might be stretching things unless it's done right.
Production Weekly has this to say on Twitter this morning:
Simon West in talks to direct Jason Statham in a reinvention of the 1972 Charles Bronson action classic "The Mechanic".
I know it's a stretch for Jason Statham to star in an action film, but perhaps he can pull it off.
If you've never seen The Mechanic, here's the plot from Wikipedia:
Arthur Bishop (played by Bronson) is a "mechanic" — a hit man who performs his jobs cleanly, without leaving a trace of his work. When he is assigned by his organization to kill one of the heads, "Big Harry" McKenna (Keenan Wynn), he does so with his usual sense of efficiency, imagination and detachment, shooting at Big Harry, while making Harry think that the shots are being fired by a hidden sniper who is trying to kill them both, until Harry suffers a heart attack and dies.
At Big Harry's funeral, Bishop meets Harry's son Steve (played by Vincent). Steve is intrigued by Bishop and seeks to find out more about him. Bishop, also intrigued, plays along. Finally he makes Steve his protege, demonstrating his "tools of the trade", such as piloting, lipreading, and powerfully developed fingers. But Bishop fails to get his superiors' consent for the arrangement. Following a messy contract assassination conducted by Bishop and Steve, the organization Bishop works with decides to have him killed, ultimately hiring Steve to do the job.
The movie is also well remembered for its absence of dialogue in the first fifteen or so minutes.
A remake you guys would like to see? I thought Stallone was doing a remake of Death Wish, but I guess he's too old to do every Bronson movie.
Take a hit and

Jason Statham should not do this... Viggo Mortensen would have been better cast

I agree with you Viggo would be a better cast, Statham is good too but its that you have DEATHRACE, TRANSPORTER, and now this, seems he's always doing a movie with some sort of vechile.

Don't get me wrong, I like Jason Statham is a decent action star, but all his roles are the same. This is because he only plays one character -Jason Statham. I speak first hand because I met him once.
The fact that this film is very much like Hitman (the video game) and that Agent 47 looks just like Statham (or vice-versa) makes you wonder what the film maker is actually trying to get after (... Hitman 2?). How about getting someone new in an crime/action movie?
Surprisingly, the suggestion of Viggo Mortensen is awesome -then again he is one of the greatest actors of our times. He kicked ass in Eastern Promises, which I thought I read they might make a second. Wicked!

Viggo is a real actor. Jason is an action figure that you get with your burger
