Jin-Roh is Jonesing for a Live-Action Remake

Anime fans, step up. Here's one for you: thanks to a comment made at a Production I.G. panel at Anime Expo this Sunday, we now know that the 1999 film Jin-Roh could be next in line for a live-action remake.

Said VP Maki Terashima-Furuta, "[S]omebody has the live-action rights, and somebody was planning to make a live-action Jin-Roh, but at the moment, I have no comment."

I never saw the flick, but according to Anime News Network, who broke the story, Jin-Roh is "[s]et in a riot-torn alternate-world version of 1950s Tokyo, the film's story follows a special operations police officer who is haunted by the memories of a girl."

As you can see from the pic below, somehow the alternate version of Tokyo has resulted in vaguely Darth-Vader-like police uniforms -- something I won't argue against because, well, it looks pretty darn cool. These troopers can also be seen in flicks like Blood: The Last Vampire an anime whose live-action version has not received many (any?) good reviews. (You'll find Blood: The Last Vampire in theaters this Friday, but the question is: do you want to even find it? It's currently rating 18 percent over at Rotten Tomatoes.)
