Universal Pictures has provided us with a hi-res version photo of Sleestaks. Click on the image to a have a look.
Yup there they are - the baddies from Land of the Lost have gotten a makeover for the new Will Ferrell flick. Take a look at the Sleestaks! Ewwwwwwwwwww...looks like Greedo had babies with the Black Lagoon monster.
So I've never been a fan of Land of the Lost. Never watched the show as it was a bit before my time (yes...finally...I'm not THAT old!). However anything Kroft is usually cheesy good fun. Will doing a big budget adaptation of cheesy fun ruin a good thing?
The answer: I dunno. Probably?
Fact of the matter is the TV-to-Feature goodness ratio is pretty low. There's only been a couple 'great' adaptations and then again that is usually a person's opinion. Some might say, "Charlie's Angels is a great adaptation" as I heard today and I say sure. Bad but great TV show with cheese and breasts turns into a bad but great feature with cheese and breasts. However they couldn't even keep that formula right when they made the sequel.
So now comes the big screen Land of the Lost which has a forest ranger (Ferrell) and his two kids stumbling into a mysterious land full of dinosaurs, Sleestaks, and other weird things. I find it funny that Ferrell is in this only because he played the character Marshall Willenholly in Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back - a name-play of LOTL's main characters Rick Marshall, Will, and Holly.
Brad Silberling is directing this one and that makes me doubly unsure of how this adaptation will be. Why? Because he adapted Lemony Snicket for the big screen and that turned a great book(s) and made a not-so-great adaptation. Will he keep up his luck streak?
One can hope that he keeps great cheese and fun in there but something tells me with an actual budget all they can do is screw it up. But once again...time will tell.
