Len Wiseman Will Lead Gear of War

Reddit

By Edgar 'El Toro' Arce on June 16, 2008

Upon reading in the trades that Len Wiseman will be directing the popular ‘Gears of War’, I made my way over to the games official web site to get a feel for what to expect. Holy BLEEP. I was blown away by the game description and mini trailer they have set up over there. Its incredibly provocative stuff! I got excited just by the website.

So today its official, although this was reported a while back (August 07 to be exact) over at IESB but Len Wiseman is suiting up to direct New Line's "Gears of War," based on Microsoft and Epic Games' hit videogame.

How Wiseman does as a director will be reflected in the final product, but as to his experience? He has a pretty impressive resume.

Wiseman, who established himself in the biz as an art director on pics like "Godzilla" and "Independence Day," is also producing the third installment of Screen Gems' "Underworld" franchise after having helmed the first two.

Chris Morgan is penning a new draft of the actioner that Stuart Beattie originally tackled. Wiseman will develop the story with Morgan. The two are also collaborating on the sci-fi action thriller "Shell Game"

We took a look at Beattie's treatment a while back HERE.

The website for the game gives off a desperate, apocalyptic feeling, and I have to admit I’m psyched! Read on:

"Gears" revolves around a world reeling from an invasion by aliens known as the Locust and a small team of elite soldiers who fight to retake the planet Sera and save its human inhabitants.

"Gears" is Microsoft's second biggest seller after the "Halo" franchise, and game maker Epic always intended to branch the property out into various media, such as films and novels, with an extensive back-story it developed for the property.

A sequel game to "Gears'" first outing in late 2006, which was available only for the Xbox 360, is in the works.

New Line had initially aimed for a summer 2009 release for the pic, but further development on the project will now likely delay that plan.
