Leonardo DiCaprio may portray Ian Fleming

By Brian Cossio on May 16, 2008

Love or hate ‘em, Leonardo DiCaprio has free reign in Hollywood. Our Titanic darling sailed into the hearts of all fans in 1997 and into the bank accounts of every major motion picture studio that could get their hands on him. It is since been no secret that he carries himself with a high-brow, better than thou air, but DiCaprio portraying legendary author Ian Fleming is a little hard to swallow.

Playing a legendary historic icon has not proven solid for DiCaprio, recall Howard Hughes. Although he was well received by the Hollywood community in this role he was nominated “just cause” by the academy. Maybe it’s the films he decides to do or purely just bad timing and always ends up nominated in the year that gives us four great nominees versus one. Between you and me, I just don’t think Leo is that great of an actor.

I have yet to see the trailers for the film, but off the initial description, it seems like Leo fell short of securing himself a role in one of the Bond franchises, so he decided to be the creator of the famous James Bond instead. Rather than taking the beating them and joining them approach, why not be the historical back bone? Is there in audience that will actually find this interesting? We shall see.

If done correctly this could lead DiCaprio much sought after Oscar, but I am not holding out for this one...regardless, he has his following and the he makes money, and we all know that’s what matters.
