I'm not sure if this is actually news or not because Cameron had been talking about a trilogy for months now. But I guess he officially did announce that there will be a sequel to Avatar. Whether Fox has greenlit one or not, Avatar has now become the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time (currently at $1,131,752464), right behind Cameron's other film, Titanic. So if James Cameron says there's a sequel, then Fox is going to give him a sequel.

The moderator asked if there *would* be an Avatar sequel. To which Cameron answered that the plan had always been to make a trilogy of films. Finally, Cameron actually said it: "Yes, there'll be another."
There you go, fans of Pandora and Na'vi and fans of parapalegics. Avatar 2 will be coming your way sometime...actually who knows when. I'd say a good 5 years at least. The man has to go buy some islands or something first with all of that money he's making.
