Lucas Says No More Indy Without Harrison Ford

Making the news rounds now are George Lucas' comments regarding the future of the Indiana Jones series as it relates to Harrison Ford:

"He is Indiana Jones," Lucas said of Ford. "If Indiana Jones wasn't in it, you'd have to call it 'Mutt Williams and the search for Elvis.' ... "Yeah, it's 'Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis.'"

"The franchise really depends on me coming up with a good idea," Lucas said. "And that series is very research-intensive. So we're doing research now to see if we can't come up with another object for him to chase ... hopefully we'll come up with something."

By the time you manage to come up with something it'll be another twenty years and you can call it 'Indiana Jones and the Search For the Golden Wheelchair.' I mean seriously dude, when is it gonna stop? It had been almost twenty years since the last one and stupid looking aliens were all you could come up with. Bad enough you're taking all the credit away from Spielberg by saying the only way the franchise can succeed is if you manage to come up with something.

You could look at the numerous books, video games and comic book storylines as inspiration for your next Indy adventure. But I'm begging you not to. Even if you got everything together for another Indy, it will be at least, at least, another three years and by that time we'll have moved on from our favorite archeologist to something else.

Just let this franchise die already. The only positive thing you said was that you weren't passing the torch off to Skywalker LaBeouf (for those of you not familiar, ever since Shia's drinking and driving car accident where he mangled his hand up, he will now and forever be referred to as Skywalker LaBeouf.) And don't make fun of the name Mutt Williams when you're the one who came up with such a ridiculous handle to begin with.

George, I love you for creating such fantastic characters that I could watch growing up but you are RAPING everything you've created by running them into the ground with bad storylines. You've begun relying on CGI to try and tell your stories and we already have a director called Michael Bay who does that.

Since you like shoving more Star Wars down our throats with Clone Wars cartoons why not work on Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII and IX instead?? I'll watch those! Those would be cool! George? George????

What do you guys think? Do we need another Indy adventure? How about finishing off the Star Wars episodes instead?

  • HIS ideas or no ideas at all

Lucas has become such a control freak that there's no way he'll let anyone but HIMSELF come up with an original idea. I bet if Spielberg came up with a concept as original as the first Indy movie, Lucas would shoot it down before Steven finished his pitch.

Glad to see that you changed the photo of Lucas. The original one made him look like a sexual predator! LOL

maybe if they can come up with something better they will always bring back the nazis all ragged up and in search for the ark. like the way the russians broke in and russian could of been a spy for the germans and told them about where the ark was located and could of got their hands on it. well you know what i mean if you seen indy when they were at area51. or maybe george can get the story from the indiana jones video game for the ps2 "INDIANA JONES AND THE EMPERORS TOMB" that game was aweseoam

  • Episodes 7-9

Lucas spoke of episodes 7-9 in passing back during the filming of the original trilogy. But evidently since the prequels he has stated that those were never written out. Mark Hamill spoke about it as well mentioning a passing of the torch so to speak. The Timothy Zahn Trilogy was badass but it is NOT the same one in question. But really do we want anything else from Lucas???

There actually isn't another trilogy, the story ends and has always ended with episode 6. The trilogy YOU are thinking of is a badass storyline that timothy Zahn wrote with permission from George Lucas. The only logical idea for the Star Wars franchise to take advantage of is creating a new and fresh storyline based on past history. Like Knights Of The Old Republic or the story of the first Jedi Kaja Sinis and the origin of the Jedi Council. THAT would breathe new life into the franchise while creating new characters and fans of all ages.

  • WEIRD!

After seeing that photo of Lucas in your article, I have a feeling that he will be making an appearence on NBC's "To Catch a Predator". Maye there will be a CG Chris Hanson?

They should have Ben Gates searching for Indy in the next NT movie. Page 47 has a diary entry from JFK about visiting Indy and family at some escavation site a couple days before they disappeared..... ooooooo-weeeeee-oooooooooo (scary SFX). I'm more than certain that Turtletaub and Co. could produce a better Indy flick than Lucas/Spielberg.
