The official Street Fighter blog announced that Mortal Kombat's own Robin Shou will be playing Gen in the upcoming Street Fighter movie! This is great news for martial arts fans who have missed seeing Robin kicking ass on screen.

With the delay (is it even going to happen?) of a Mortal Kombat 3 in theaters, this is the perfect role for Robin to take.

The blog also talks about how writer Justin Marks is handling such a complex story filled with Hadoukens, Shoryukens and electric green monster guys:

“A movie based on the Street Fighter game? But it doesn’t even have a plot!”

I’ve heard this line before. A few times. Whenever I talk to people who don’t know much about Street Fighter, it’s always the first thing they say.

But any true fan of Street Fighter knows about its rich world, its colorful palette of characters, and complicated web of varying interests and betrayals. No story? You’re just not paying attention.

The way I approached the writing of Street Fighter’s script was simple. Throw away everything and start with character. For just a moment, forget about the fights, forget about the costumes, forget about the flaming Hadoukens… go back to the essence of what the characters are about."

Mothafukka say what? Forget about the Hadoukens??? You're kidding me right Justin? This IS Street Fighter we're talking about here. I better see so many god damn fireballs shooting across the screen that my eyes will be shitting red for weeks.
