Looks like there's more life on Mars. Three English actors have just joined the cast of John Carter of Mars, Disney's film adaptation of the pulp sci-fi book series by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
With Andrew Stanton signed on to direct, and filming set to begin in Utah early next year, John Carter of Mars welcomes Samantha Morton (Elizabeth: The Goldon Age), Dominic West (300), and Polly Walker (Emma) to a cast already consisting of Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man).
Kitsch will play the part of John Carter, the Virginian and Civil War veteran who one day finds himself on Mars where he encounters friends and foes in the shape of Tars Tarkas (Dafoe), Dejah Thoris (Collins), Sola (Morton), Sab Than (West), and Sarkoja (Walker).
Burroughs' book series, more commonly known as the Barsoom series, consists of 11 volumes detailing life and power struggles on the planet Mars, which the natives dub "Barsoom." Disney hopes that if John Carter of Mars is successful, it will kick off a whole new flagship for them.
