After weeks of negotiations, hissy fits, and temper tantrums by Rourke's agents, they finally got a good deal for the hot actor and Rourke is now going to be the big bad guy going up against Tony Stark in Iron Man 2.
Nikki Finke has the scoop:
I just heard that ICM has scored its second casting deal for Marvel's Iron Man 2. After at first being low-balled by the studio to the tune of $250K, Rourke has signed on for the role of the Russian villain in the sequel after his agent David Unger got the quote up to a "significant" level despite this punishing economic climate where the studios are taking advantage of talent.
I can also tell you that Sony was considering hiring Mickey to play the villain in Spider-Man 4. Rourke happens to be in Russia this week promoting Fox Searchlight's The Wrestler, and I hear he'll start researching his new role immediately there.

Big question is, who is he playing? Is it Crimson Dynamo like most have suggested? Omega Red? What do you guys think?
Also news that just broke regarding the casting of The Black Widow. From Deadline Hollywood comes this announcement:
I've already posted my scoop that Mickey Rourke will play the Russian villain in Iron Man 2 in a deal that started out lowball and went up a lot. Now I'm told that Emily Blunt won't be in the sequel and Black Widow will now be played by Scarlett Johannson. Interesting because Scarlett actually screen-tested for the role and didn't get it. But I hear that, unlike Mickey's quote, the deal for her is "just the opposite, a terrible deal made by CAA," one of my insiders says. "It's as bad as any deal that I've heard. It's lowball money. And it ties her to countless movies, including that ensemble The Avengers, which is what makes this brutal for a lot of actors." As for Blunt, I'm told she fell out not by choice but only because Fox exercised an option that the studio had from The Devil Wears Prada to make her do the upcoming film starring Jack Black, Gullivers Travels.
Fuck. Really? Scarlett Johannson? She's one of my favorite actresses but she's totally wrong for the role. Why not get that Olga Kurylenko chick from Hitman and Quantum of Solace? She's perfect for the part.
Am I wrong? Is Scarlett the right choice for The Black Widow?

This is awesome news indeed. I hope it's Crimson Dynamo personally. He's the best Russian villian that Iron Man has.
Once again Marvel has chosen the PERFECT actor for the part. I don't know how they keep doing it over at Marvel Studios, but I hope they keep doing it!

It's gonna be Dynamo. The clues are just obvious. And I couldn't be more excited.

Olga Kurylenko

I completely agree about Olga. She would have been perfect.

You know what I call that???

Sweet!!! Mickey Rourke is one of the most awesome mother-f#cking actors around!!! I couldn't picture a better villain for any (super-hero) movie; let alone THE best one around... Now, if we can get him to play Marcus Fenix in the Gears Of War movie...
|
Oh yeah...

I know this is gonna come up... The Dark Knight is not a super-hero movie. I don't know what you'd call it; but comparing The Dark Knight and Iron Man is like comparing apples and oranges. Yeah, I went there and used an extremely worn out cliche; but that about sums it up.

yeah

Mickey Rourke is cool. He'll be a good villain. & Scarlett Johannson is one of my favorite actresses. She'll be awsome. I'd love to watch her in Iron Man 2. She'll be great for The Black Widow. She knows how to act & she does movies like comic movies excellently. I love the marvel studios castings.

Scarlett would have been better as Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel, Kurlyenko would have been PERFECT for the Black Widow

Not Scarlett!!!

Olga kurylenko would rock has the Black Widow. Now I'm offically doubting this movie. Scarlett really? Is Favreau that much of a dumb ass?

You do realise that it's not Favreau's job to pick the actors, but, the *Caster*. Geez place blame where it needs to be for once, people!

Reason for Olga as the Black Widow
Commented By: reddog on 2009-03-12 06:03:55
as per Canon, the black widow has training as a classical ballerina. Since the 70's, she's been portrayed as an olympic calibre gymnast. Scarlett Johanson's build would pretty hard to find a stunt double for since she's got a pretty large rack. they can grab any gymnast russian/american(the current gold winner for the US) if she was olga

Scarlett Shmarlett

Scarlett Johannsson is in every movie now, she's practically becoming the new Samuel Jackson. She is not a good pic for Black Widow, and who said she's good in comic book/superhero type movies?? Name one?!?!!? Seriously though, watching her rack flop around while she's doing back-flips could be pretty cool, and hypnotic...

Rourke
Commented By: Brian on 2009-03-12 06:49:21
Ok, because of Heath, now everyone thinks they can be a villian. Heath owned that joker character, I doubt Rourke has ever worked that hard in his life. I am not buying in to his hype. I would say this probably Crimson Dynamo, but Omega Red would be awesome to see on screen, done right of course.

Caster??
Commented By: Sigurd Jarlson on 2009-03-12 08:51:16
@Captain Obvious
You don't think the films director has a say in who is cast in HIS movie? You think the actors just show up on the set without the directors input? Haha, how dumb are you?? Of course the director has a say in who is cast. Rumor has it that Favreau was not pleased with Terrence Howard, and that is part of the reason he was not brought back for IM2.

Villians

Villain possibilities:
Crimson Dynamo
Titanium Man
Constrictor (has electrical cables)
Blacklash (has an electric whip)

No, The Dark Knight was a superhero movie. It's Batman, he's a superhero, therefore it's a superhero movie. It's just not your average superhero movie.

olga was perfect!! She even has the authentic accent! Seriously, scarlett cannot act. She has one emotion/look: *pout*

How about Jovovich or Janssen?
Commented By: Ty on 2009-03-12 13:00:13
Apparently Rourke is going to play Whiplash, which in my opinion is bad casting. He would be a decent Crimson Dynamo though. And I think either Milla Jovovich ("Resident Evil") or Famke Janssen ("X-Men") would have been better choices from Black Widow.

Scarlett is probably the worst choice for this role. Olga is good enough for that, and Scarlett even doesn't look good with dank red hair

Olga is \"da\" best

Y'all can say all you want about Scarlett. But she's FINER than MU-F**A! Just slap a red wig on her and she's good to go!

Scarlett can't act and she speaks in a monotone for all of her roles.....though she is sexy, I don't know how athletic she is. The Black Widow is a f....king gymnast

you mean to tell me you'd rather a cute young actresss as opposed to a sexy woman who CAN act?! I don't to see Scarlett in that role. shes to young also. red wig or not bad bad choice. remember Halle berry as storm..... im jus sayin

actress?
on 2009-03-12 19:58:51
i wouldn't really call johansson an actress. she's quite terrible. i've asked about 10 people today and no one can tell me what movie she's been in aside from the island. all of them thought it was terrible and she was horrible in it.
are we that desperate to get these characters on screen that we will allow anyone to play them?

Makes sense....

It would make more sense if Rouke plays Crimson Dynamo instead of Whiplash, just because of the fact that Black Widow is going to be in the movie as well..... Russian Villian, and Russian Super-Spy/ Assassin...... Just makes more sense.....
