Monsters vs. Aliens Trailer!

Dreamworks has not impressed me with its animated efforts. The first two Shreks were ok, but most of their cartoons, while looking nice, have sorely lacked in the story and humor departments. Most of their cartoons just aren't funny. And when I watch a cartoon, I want to laugh. Why? Because it's a cartoon. If I want to be bored, I'll watch Japanese anime. All they do is talk talk talk for ninety minutes. Well, that Evangelion series was kind of cool.
The first trailer for Dreamworks' new direction into the realm of 3-D has hit the net with Monsters vs. Aliens. I've seen some footage of this film from a recent set visit to Dreamworks, and the movie looks gorgeous. The 3-D is also pretty cool but nothing so far will ever top Beowulf in IMAX 3-D. However, like most Dreamworks cartoons, I'm wondering if the humor and story will start to flatten out come the 2nd act. However, this one looks rather promising.
I like the throwback to the 50's sci-fi/monster films of yesterday. The 3-D should look pretty cool since this is the first animated feature to actually be made in 3-D, and not converted to 3-D after the film's completion, starting a trend with Dreamworks where all of their future films will be 3-D. Shame. I'm getting a bit annoyed with Hollywood's 3-D trend already. I've seen the format hurt the look of Bolt's beautiful animation so hopefully studios realize not every film requires big ugly glasses to view it. But cartoons and now live action seem to be going toward 3-D in a big way, so I best get used to wearing said big, ugly glasses.
I bet $50 Pirates 4 will be in 3-D. You heard it here first.
The film is due out March 27, 2009 in Ultimate 3-D and IMAX.
The film marks the theatrical debut of DreamWorks Animation's Ultimate 3-D, the studio's proprietary production process of authoring its animated films in 3-D from start to finish.
Check out the trailer below.
When California girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a "monster" named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.
As a last resort, under the guidance of General W.R. Monger (on a desperate order from The President), the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction.

MvsA looks awesome! And I agree with Pirates 4 being 3D most likely - Disney is fast adopting it. The glasses aren't that bad! We all slip on sunglasses in the sunlight without caring too much don't we? Same idea.

I'm not gonna sit here and try to convince you to watch any Anime Guapo like everyone else but lets just say thats theres plenty of great stuff your missing out on. Theres some pretty good suggestions here. Anyway I'd just like to say that I have also not been impressed by Dreamwork's (PDI) computer animation. At first I thought the first Shrek was pretty cool but after everybody just kept bragging about how great it was and the relentless rewatching of the DVD by kids, I just wanted the damn thing to go away. That seems to happen to me. I don't want to seem that way but whenever something comes along that gets ridiculous attention and praise for just being okay or especially if it's mediocre, I get a little pissed. I never saw Shrek 2 becuase of 1 and 3 put me to sleep within 10 min. of it starting. And as long as I'm bitching, Shrek has never been an appealing character to me. I know he's an Ogre and is suppose to be ugly but Shrek is bar far one of the most unappealingly designed characters in along while. Even Quasimoto, w/ his hump and fucked up face wasn't as uncharasmatic and down right lame as Shrek is in design. And as far as his voice goes, I just had about enough of the Mike Myers Scottish accent by then. I'd already seen that shit a million times. It's way tired! The animation isn't that great either. The humans look terrible and the texter to the skin on their faces is just sickening. I get the feeling that they've gotten better with recent releases but alot of times it looks pretty shitty. I know they're improving but for the life of me I can't remember what other films they made uptill now. But I can remember all the Pixar movies though.
