UPDATE! New Pic and Clip Of Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge In A Christmas Carol!

By Kellvin Chavez on May 18, 2009
Latino Review has been provided with a new still for "Disney's A Christmas Carol," starring Jim Carrey and directed by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis.

The still shows Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge being visited by one of the three ghosts.

Check out the still below and click on it for a hi-res version of it as well.

UPDATE!!!! AS SOON AS WE POSTED THIS IMAGE WE WERE SENT THE FIRST VERY SMALL CLIP FROM THE FILM AS WELL.

“Disney’s A Christmas Carol” opens in theatres November 6 in Disney Digital 3D™ and in IMAX 3D®.

Charles Dickens' timeless tale of an old miser, Ebeneezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey), who must face Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, as they help to bring kindness to his otherwise cold heart. The Ghosts remind him of the man he used to be, the hard truth of what the world is today, and what will happen if he does not strive to be a better man. Set around Christmas, the most joyous day of the year, Scrooge realizes the sharp contrast of his own personality.

Carrey plays four separate roles in this updated version of A Christmas Carol. Carrey portrays Scrooge, as well as the three ghosts (Past, Pesent, and Future). His dynamic character roles keep the four characters as diverse as being played by four actors.

Looking pretty good, the CGI still looks dodgy but then again it still has time to do its finishing touches before November comes around.
That sucked

Flat out. Looks terrible. The Ghostbusters videogame trailer looks better than this. And why the hell is Marly wearing that thing on his head?
Real ghost???

why couldn't jim carrey just play the damn role himself - i mean, why have a performance capture if the movie isn't fantasy/action? i'd rather watch jim carrey stretch that mug than this reanimated corpse b.s. going back to alistair sim...
The thing on marleys head...

It's a piece of material wrapping under his jaw and tying at the top to hold his mouth closed after death. Try reading the book...

Maybe I don't wanna read the book. Maybe I'd rather ask the question. Maybe it looked like a goddamn bow in a really stupid and cartoony clip.
Ummmm

That looked kinda crappy, actually. I hope that's not what the finished movie will look like. Not trying to be a smart@ss, but really, didn't that look pretty cheesy? The ghost in particular looked like one of those texture-mapped heads/faces from any video game of a couple of years ago.
Not Again!

When is Robert Zemeckis going to make real films again?
Oy.

It looked good until I saw Jim Carrey's name. At least it isn't live action, then it would be nothing but facial contortions and toilet humor.
Looks Funny

CGI wise yeah it's good but Jim Carrey isn't funny anymore. He gives off the scent of this pathethic washed up actor who makes weird faces and still does the same immature jokes he did more than 20 years ago. He was much more tolerable in Sunshine of the Spotless mind and to a lesser extent 23 (which was a horrible movie, but at least he didn't go into his horrible Ace Ventura mode of just doing stupid things).
Looks Fantastic

For 1998. If I look out of the corner of my eye I'd swear it was a cinematic from Diablo II

Sorry but mocap = Fail It just looks shit Anyone with any bit of artistic talent can tell it looks rubish, just use animators for gods sake, you get such a better result
not long enough to make a real decision

What most of you are failing to remember is that this is a DISNEY movie...so of course it's going to be cartoonish and cheesy. But I do agree that the textures on the ghost did look a little dated.
Not so fast guys...

There are a few perspectives here I want to respond to... 1. Jim Carrey: Say what you want, I'm tired of the Ace Ventura bit as well. However, his performance in The Truman Show was surprising, Eternal Sushine he was exceptional, and Lemony Snickets was ideal for his phyiscal comedy abilities. Casting Jim Carrey as Scrooge and 3 other characters is a good call considering his reputation from these movies... 2. The CG: It's weak... Really Really Weak. They may have time to apply the finishing touches but the problems that are evident here really worry me. The shading is mediocre at best, Modeling strikes me as something I would have seen 5 years ago. As an example many of you saw benjamin button. The visual effects in that movie were made possible by high-detail sculpting applications like zbrush and Mudbox *they used zbrush. This looks like it is still using the tricks employed by earlier production workflows where they fake high frequency details as opposed to sculpting them. e.g. Look at the lack of definition on the ghosts hands, the fingers bend like noodles and there is very little hint of joints and structure. 3. Mo Cap: There is nothing wrong with Mo Cap. Monster House used Motion Capture very well... The polar Express not so much and Beowulf wasn't ready for the articulation needed from mo-cap for photo-realism... Remember that Motion Capture was used for Gollum. The ability to allow an actor to act in real-time as opposed to an animator analyzing how to convey emotion and characterization frame by frame is very useful and can improve the final product dramatically. In this case Mocap is a very good choice. 4. Disney: Sigh... I was once a Disney hater as well. That has recently changed. Remember that Disney bought Pixar. There's more to that story than most realize. To learn more watch "The Pixar Story." Years ago Disney lost it's touch. The only thing that saved them was Pixar. Following the replacement of Michael Eisner Pixar was purchased but with a great deal of big changes to Disney. John Lasseter is the creative genius behind Pixar. He directed many of the films and is largely responsible for the atmosphere that makes Pixar special. As part of Disney's purchase of Pixar, John Lasseter was named Chief Creative Officer of ALL things creative at Disney, including theme parks. For this reason Disney deserves no criticism of film making practices, they are in excellent hands now... I was excited about this movie but what worries me is their willingness to show what is clearly so unfinished. Let's hope this is pre-viz....

You have got to be kidding me right? Washed up actor?? Jim Carrey is our Jerry Lewis our stinking george burns. no he's not washed up.It's good cgi even though it is mo cap. Over all nice modeling and rendering and the Novel is cool enough to warrant yet another 40th interpretation.
