New Star Trek Trailer!! By Kellvin Chavez on March 05, 2009 This is why I love the internet...well most of the time.  The wait is over because the new trailer for J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" movie starring Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, and Eric Bana is OUT! Now I'm not a Trekkie at all, but this shit looks freaking good. The film is due out May 8th 2009. From director J.J. Abrams ("Mission: Impossible III," "Lost" and "Alias") and screenwriters Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman ("Transformers," "MI: III") comes a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time, "Star Trek," featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no man has gone before. I never liked the whole "trekkers vs. trekkies" debate and all the stupid judgmentalism. It seems to have a great plot/story. Visually we can expect it to be great, but what I am really looking forward to here is the character development. The struggle that makes these characters Iconic. From the looks of it, this movie might just deliver that. If it does then Paramount has made a good. The true Trek fans will debate and hate it or love it, and will go see the movie regardless. It was easier in the early 80's because there was only a handful of precedence to contradict. You can't have a series continue to be exciting if all you can do is rehash old concepts because anything else breaks some ideological mandate. Star Trek has always resembled the feel and style of the era of when it was made. The original series had incorporated many real world issues and conflicts with it's stories. Everyone wants large long and grand story arcs that tie in smaller stories to build it up to an end point. This movie will be good, if not excellent. The problem will be that it probably will conflict with the known history of Star Trek, So what. This may be the last chance to revive the franchise. I have loved every series and most movies in the franchise. The movies I disliked the most were mostly the original series movies which seemed to suck every other movie or so. Every other series in the franchise were very good in there own respects, which were not always in the respect of the old star trek vision. That couldn't be helped, Gene Rodennberry passed away, what did you expect. We need to look at this movie for what it is and adjust our expectations accordingly. So far every ad (and there are lots) have been making this new Star Trek look like a common mindless dumb*** movie, In the other ads I get the impression I'd like it even less than my other least favorites Star Trek V (the search for god) and Star Trek First Contact. Personally I've been a big fan of Enterprise, The Next Generation, and Deep Space Nine so returning to the original series doesn't really interest me very much, that doesn't ruin the movie for me, but it isn't an idea I find very interesting, still being a Star Trek movie will encourage me check it out.
