News Flash! Flash Gordon Coming Soon
By Edgar 'El Toro' Arce on May 21, 2008

I was sifting through the trades today, deciding how much paper to line the bottom of my birdcage with, and I came across this story on one of them saying that Flash Gordon was going to be made by Sony. Now, I took a breath and had to remind myself of the original idea regarding who in fact was flash Gordon and here’s the basic idea:
"Flash Gordon," the 1934 comic strip created by Alex Raymond, Flash was a handsome polo player who is kidnapped and taken to the planet Mongo. He is pitted against an evil ruler named Ming the Merciless. The comic strip became the basis of a successful movie serial in that era that starred Buster Crabbe, who later played Buck Rogers.
Now, as you know there’s going to be another Buck Rogers film….as for this one, if they’re serious about making this film they need to redo the origins, because this sounds really silly to me. A polo player? How about an NFL Player? Or an MMA fighter!! Oh well, Sony’s doing it, and due to Iron Man’s success, we all should expect more comic book driven films in the near future. For now, I need to bust out my Queen music and get prepared for this one.
