I am more familiar with Don Cheadle's work and think he is a superior actor. This is, of course, just my opinion. So perhaps if others agree, then this is a good thing. Come On! He played a main character in the film & was wonderful. Iron Man did great because everything flowed. Marvel can't just replace a major character in the sequel & expect to so as well. Sure "The Dark Knight" replaced Rachael, but Rachael was not that much of a major character in the first film, "Batman Begins". Rachael's charcter became more important in "The Dark Knight". Rachael was actually a character that was on screen alot & what happened to her effected alot of other characters & outcomes in "The Dark Knight". Rachael in the first film, "Batman Begins", was not that crucial to the story. She was a supporting character in the first that wasn't as involved as she was in the second. So a new actress didn't change that much of the atmosphere. Besides, Batman 2 came out 3 years after Batman 1. The image wasn't still fresh in people's minds, so a new face didn't effect the flow. Now with "Iron Man 2" coming out just 2 years after "Iron Man 1", the image will still be fresh in people's minds. & A new face will effect the steady flow Iron Man as been enjoying all this time. Rhodey was very involved with the main character, Tony Stark. He helped save Stark's life & he was on screen alot, including the beginning of the movie. Rhodey's character was a big part of the movie & effected alot of the outcome of Iron Man's story. One of the most talked about things between all of the people who saw "Iron Man", was War Machine in the sequel. One of the hottest topics was to see Rhodey as War Machine in the next film. "Iron Man 1" even gave a tease with Howard & a silver Iron Man suit. Alot of buzz for "Iron Man 2" is Rhodey as War Machine. Now if one of the most popular characters & one of the biggest interests in the sequel is played by a new face, that will soil the excitment & joy of the sequel. Howard was an important part of "Iron Man 1" as Rhodey & a most desired part for "Iron Man 2". & Now the desire is gone. I know Don Cheadle is an astonishing & accomplished actor, but Terrence Howard built up the electricity in people for the sequel. How can you establish one man as a solid core character with something to give for the sequel. & With the fans anxiously voicing their opinions on waiting to see that man give it to them in the sequel. That being Howard as War Machine. & Substitute that man with a diffent man. A fine actor, yes. But how can they do that? In conclusion, it's like having a origin story & watching a actor establish himself as the soon to be Super Hero, & then right as soon as he becomes the Hero, it's a different actor. It doesn't work. You can't have Christian Bale Begin Batman & then have George Clooney be The Dark Knight. That's why Batman Begins Again! Because changing any of the heroes or Super Heroes, kills the franchise. Notice how Alfred, Fox, & Gordin were all the same actors. The supporting heroes must stay intact as well. But in Terrance Howard's sake or Rhodey & War Machine's sake, he is more than just supporting, he is one of the Super Hereos. Dear Marvel, It doesn't work if you change the Hero in the middle of the story. Especially a Hero the people were looking forward to seeing. How do you get Rhodey all ready to be War Machine, & then when he finally flies, he's a different Rhodey? Coming from a company who's livelihood is Super Heroes. I figured you would understand this. P.S. - If Mr. Howard refuses to return to the sequel, it may be smart to either pull a Dark Knight, & kill off Rhodey as they did with Rachael. With or without a new actor. My opion is maybe Mr. Howard would be willing to play a small part or just one scene in which Rhodey is killed by the main villain, an accident, or something in which Stark feels responible for. & This could be the reason Tony Stark begins to drink & drink. The death of Rhodey would take away people's chance to see War Machine, but it would give new life into Iron Man 2's story. I for one am willing to sacrifice War Machine for the better of Iron Man. & Maybe if Rhodey died, there's always a chance some one else, a different character, could be War Machine. I know thats not in the comics, but this is a movie & this could do the movie better justice, while still getting to see War Machine. All I'm trying to say to Marvel is...... A new Rhodey will just not do. Either try harder to get Terrance Howard back or find some way to meet each other half way. & Have him be in the movie, if only for a short moment, to some how be removed from the rest of the movie in some logical way. Or get creative & find a way to remove Rhodey from the sequel without having him played by another actor. Or keep War Machine without Rhodey. If Iron Man is in die hard need of Super Hero help, why not introduce HawkEye or somebody else like that? Didn't I hear Thor was supposed to be in the sequel, maybe? Just think outside the box Marvel. You don't have to play this card. You don't have to risk anything. You don't have to do this. Marvel Comics has thousands of characters & The Avengers have tons of members that could easily take the place of War Machine, & easily make the audience forget about War Machine. Because Marvel could choose from many of various Avenger characters that would please any true believers eyes. HawkEye, The Vision (a robotic hero sorta like Iron Man), Wonder Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, or maybe just more of Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury would do. & That is just to name a few. Come on Marvel! I am a true believer in you! You can do this! better fit? If the movie is as successful as the Dark Knight, then it might not matter seeing that movie had a cast upheaval itself.
