Hong Kong comedian Stephen Chow said he will no longer direct the Hollywood adaptation of "The Green Hornet" and may not star as Kato, a character made famous by Bruce Lee in the short-lived TV series, reports The Associated Press.
Chow, whose credits include "Shaolin Soccer" and "Kung Fu Hustle," said over the weekend that he wants to free up time to work with Jack Black on a comedy about a superhero.
"If I direct 'The Green Hornet,' the superhero comedy will have to be delayed for two years," Chow said. "The timing might not be right for a superhero comedy in two years. And I want to make a movie based on an original idea."
Details about that movie weren't immediately available.
Columbia Pictures announced Chow's involvement in "The Green Hornet" in September. A publicist for Columbia Pictures didn't immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.
Chow said whether he stays on to play Kato in "The Green Hornet" depends on his schedule.
The original series, which debuted on the radio in Detroit in 1936, is about a debonair newspaper publisher who moonlights as a masked crime-fighter along with his martial arts-expert sidekick.
In 1966, it was turned into an ABC television series starring Van Williams as the title character and Bruce Lee as Kato. It ran for one season.

WOW this t.v. show that ran for 1 season (w/ the great Bruce Lee) has been tossed around for seems like a decade..and the current bunch pretty much sounds about as tempting as the last guy to touch it (Kevin Smith).with or without Chow this flick will probably blow..
If were all wet in our panties about cancelled show being made into motion pictures how bout "Men Behaving Badly" (you could still get duece bigalow to play his role) or Mork and Mindy or maybee even Star Trek for that matter (There making star trek into a movie? HOLY SHIT )
point is this shit so stale it makes left over popcorn seem fresh!

An original Stephen Chow comedy movie co-staring Jack Black seems much more up his alley, and much more interesting!
I hope Chow's first directorial debut here in the states is of his own writing.

Either the real story is money, creative rights, or Stephen finally woke up and wanted to do something original. Or could it be that he finally found out that Seth Rogan is a terrible actor and just not that funny, not that J. Black is any better ( but there is a yo no se que) about him that's aaa aight!
