Offer out to Chris Pine for Green Lantern!

By El Mayimbe on March 19, 2009
Offer out to Chris Pine for Green Lantern! Earlier today, IESB broke the story that Chris Pine was rumored to be at the top of a list of names for the role of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern.

It's more than just a rumor...

It's LEGIT!

How do we know?

According to my sources "THE OFFICIAL OFFER is out Chris Pine for the role."

At press time, Pine hasn't either accepted nor declined the role.

Green Lantern is scheduled to begin filming mid-September in Australia.

So what do you guys think?

Hal Jordan is a fictional character, a DC Comics superhero. He is the second Green Lantern and arguably the most famous hero to bear that name. Created by John Broome and Gil Kane, he first appeared in Showcase #22 (October 1959).

Hal Jordan's revamp as the Green Lantern was one of many old DC Comics characters to emerge in the Silver Age of comics. Like many of his contemporaries, Hal Jordan became more identified with his heroic identity than the previous iterations of the characters. Controversy erupted among comic book readers in 1994 when Hal Jordan became supervillain Parallax and Kyle Rayner replaced him as the Green Lantern.

Jordan underwent a number of further changes in the 1990s including dying and later returning as a new incarnation of The Spectre. Hal Jordan returned to the role of Green Lantern in 2004's Green Lantern: Rebirth miniseries and is currently the protagonist of the current volume of Green Lantern.

I can see it...and looking at the trailers for Star Trek, I trust the guy's acting ability. Nonetheless, I prefer with Afro-American version as was planned for the Justice League movie -- a role that Common was supposed to fill, which I thought fit perfectly. Nonetheless, props to the producers for picking this guy out. It might turn out really well...or horribly...
i can see it too

he actually looks more like Hal Jordan than Capt. Kirk
Good choice

I like the guys range. He was good in smokin aces and the star trek previews look good with him in it. I believe he can pull it off
Too young

IMO they need a slightly older guy More of a man's man, too many puny , emo actors these days, CANNOT WAIT FOR EXPENDABLES

He definitely has the look and i agree that his acting seems good in the star trek trailers. I still like Ben Browder aka John Chriton from Farscape. Lets not forget the actor can only go so far... I am watching Superman Returns on tv right now. It saddens me how shitty the movie is. The story is the most disappointing, and Superman is a big pussy in the movie. Lets just hope they dont do it to Hal Jordan.

I CALLED THIS. HAHA HOLY CRAP. i've been posting that exact picture of him on boards. that's awesome.
No thanks

Maybe i'm biased against him because i don't like what i've seen of Star Trek. Maybe it's because Smokin Aces sucked HARD. Maybe it's because the only other thing i've seen him in was five minutes of a godawful Lohan movie. Maybe it's because i'm still holding out for Fillion or Browder. But i just don't like Chris Pine. He may be a lovely person, but he's not the Hal Jordan i see in my head. I would hate to see this film done wrong and have to wait years for a reboot. Thumbs down.

No! Wrong. Too puny? I don't know. Too young? I don't know about that either. What I do know is what my gut tells me and it tells me that if they go with this guy and he gets cast, it's gonna be Superman Returns all over again. Obviously I don't mean that the story will be as shitty, no, I mean that its gonna be pretty fucking ludacris watching a queer looking guy try and be our superhero. Looking at the new Star Trek you can see that the entire cast he's totally wrong. He is no Capt. Kirk. Christian Bale, Robert Downey Jr., Hugh Jackman... the list goes on and on. These heroes are suppose to be manly men not pretty faced pussy boys. I'm not exaggerating. Casting is a big fucking deal. They can blow all this on just getting the wrong guy. Many people may not be Green Lantern fans but Im sure they expect him to be a man. If the general public can't see the actor thats cast as Green Lantern then they won't show up to see the movie. Thats a fact. Get someone that can fit the shoes, wear the shield and the ring. Get a fucking clue WB and stop fucking up your properties that aren't Batman.

Trained actor

I have actually happened to see Chris Pine on stage a few times. The guy has a deeper well of talent than I think has been showcased in most films I have seen (or, more precisely for some of them, seen the trailers of). How much depth can you show in Princess Diaries 2? But actors have to work. I saw him (long story) in this very intense one man show in NYC. Not only carried it...made the play work better than it probably should have (and I was a reluctant viewer). I think Star Trek looks acceptable and if he lands a role with quality behind it I think he will execute more than adequately.
An unknown.
Commented By: Lumi on 2009-03-20 01:51:19
This is Super returns all over again. This movie will suck. They should have gone the Batman route, cast an already known actor that was just about ready to explode ala Christan Bale.
cough
Commented By: cough on 2009-03-20 02:24:02
Brandon Routh was a complete unknown. Pine has been a few movies already, like Bottle Shock and Smokin' Aces. So it's different. It's not gonna 'suck'. He already has Star Trek so he has something under his belt.
Good deal
Commented By: Brian on 2009-03-20 08:02:03
I say he looks the part, fan boys need to back off and give him a chance. Fan boys lost all credibility with Heath, so shut up. You know you will watch the movie anyway.
I like it.
Commented By: KJ on 2009-03-20 08:13:41
If this does go through, I think it can work. I think he looks more Hal than Kirk. Star Trek isn't out yet, but from the previews, so far so good. And give me a break on GL needing to be an unknown. Hugh Jackman was an unknown with Wolverine, how did that work out?
Hal Jordan
Commented By: MoviesIReview.com on 2009-03-20 08:18:21
I'm just glad they are doing the movie about Hal Jordan instead of the others. Kyle was too whiny, seen too much of John and Guy's an idiot/bully. Pine looks the part. Maybe we'll get a good GL movie!
Hey!

Hey, I LIKED Superman Returns! That scene with the plane in the ballpark was worth the price of admission. And I'm already braced for the fact that, no matter how good the Green Lantern movie turns out, no matter how many millions enjoy it, there will be reviewers and fanboys who will screech that it's horrible. I just hope they include Gnort.
Solid Choice
Commented By: Jal Hordan on 2009-03-20 11:13:08
Yes he looks a bit young, but he's got a good masculine look, and judging by the ST trailer, he has a strong screen presence. Sorry El Cucuy, but I strongly disagreee with you. This would be good casting if it happens, although I would have loved Sam Worthington.
If he\'s being considered, they should wait until Star Trek comes out
Commented By: Clem on 2009-03-20 13:05:14
If he's seriously under consideration, they should wait to see how his Star Trek reboot does at the box office. If his performance falls flat, is widely panned and the movie tanks, associating a similar property like Green Lantern with him would be a HUGE mistake and drag down not one franchise, but two. He's getting parts off a role nobody has even SEEN yet. Put it in perspective studios.
Maybe, but if not

He'd be great, but if he passes, I vote for him to Play Fitz in Pyramids of Mars!!

Commented By: Mike on 2009-03-20 22:15:16
I still think he look's too young for Hal Jordan. I'd prefer one of the older names I've heard, like Nathan Fillion and Jon Hamm.
Sounds good

Pine certainly looks the part. I think he'll be a fine Hal Jordan. Let's be honest, the movie is goign to b so chock full od awesome special effects that he doesn't have to be great. a good director can get a great performance out of any actor. Great directors are always coming out of The FIlm Connection. http://www.film-connection.com They offer one on one mentoring and hands on experience

He wouldn't be a bad choice and I would accept him in the role, but I would rather see Duhamel or Fillion ahead of him as Hal. Maybe WB's honchos have already seen the footage of what he can do in Star Trek to know enough that they would offer him the role?

i think he would be perfect, if this is going to tell the hal jordan saga from the begining with hime being the hotshot fight jock and the exchange of the ring, the only problem i have is who will be the badguy?? and will they get a good sinestro to mentor and then ultimately turn on the core leaving it open for a sequel??? but i have faith jst as long as they don't butcher the origin too much
Boo!!
Commented By: No Pine!!!!!! on 2009-03-23 07:48:44
This guy as Hal? Give me a break. He looks more like a villain than a good guy. Sinestro maybe, but not one of the good guys.
Script
Commented By: Mark on 2009-03-25 16:02:36
Hal in the script is late 20s, so casting someone in his mid-late 20s is perfect casting. Fillion is too old and I don't really see him as Hal like many do anyway. Hopefully, whether it's Pine or not, the Hal they cast is age appropriate, looks the part and can act.
Mathew Fox

Guys I actually called the casting director THIE DAY THIS WAS POSTED. For those of you who don't know, the casting director is the one who goes through all the initial and possible applicants before they get to see the producers and directors. My agent asked if the role was still being cast, or was there someone they had in mind. The casting director told him that they had not cast anyone at that time and that they had no particular person in mind for the job yet. There would be no reason for them to sit on the information, because they're getting hammered with hundreds of applicants and if they already had someone in mind they could avoid all of that.
What about Gosling?

I remember old old rumors of interest in the guy for GL. He's proved his strong acting--which is exactly what these movies need.
