Prince Of Persia To Be More Like Pirates Of Persia
By George 'El Guapo' Roush on October 3, 2008

Not really ground breaking news, but the creator of the Prince of Persia video game franchise speaks out about the expectations for this big giant blockbuster:
“This is how we pitched it to Disney and Bruckheimer – as an old-fashioned swashbuckling action-adventure in a tradition going all the way back to the Doug Fairbanks movies. The modern equivalent being ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ an example of an old movie made new again, doing a fresh take on it for a modern audience,” Mechner said. “Tonally, I’d say it’s basically ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ with maybe a half-step towards ‘Gladiator.’”
"NO! It's part Jake, part action, all awesome! And it'll have a splash of sexy Maxim babes and some swift swordfights and enormous jumping moves, what's that called...parker something...and cool time sequences with a dash of derr to do and a whiff of exotic naughtiness only we can bring to the big screen!"
God, Hollywood makes me laugh. But wait! There's more:
“There’ll certainly be a lot of stunts, a lot of special effects. I mean it’s Jerry Bruckheimer!” Mechner insisted. “They’re shooting in the deserts of Morocco. The scope of this is going to be massive. It’s really spectacular.”
“Well the movie’s packed with action, so there’ll be swords and horses and all the things that wouldn’t be ‘Prince of Persia’ without. But because it’s a movie, it’s about the characters and character relationships. There’s no fighting for fighting’s sake. In a game, you have a lot of fighting because you’re doing it and it’s fun,” he said. “But in a movie, fighting’s a part of the story but it’s not a movie about swordfighting.”Click
HERE for the rest of how awesome he thinks this movie will be.
I know Disney is really banking on this film, but Jake Gyllenhaal is no Johnny Depp which is probably why Disney greenlit a fourth pirates in case this ends up becoming a stinker.
And please don't ever tell Jean Claude Van Damme that fighting is only part of a story, because he will kick your man nuggets to the moon if he hears that.
