Punisher 2 Lands A Director
By Ryan 'The Rican with the Irish name' McLelland on June 12, 2007
Sure the Punisher franchise is turning out Batmanesque with its switching of its lead actors Some may not consider the 1989 Dolph Lundgren cheapie part of the cannon, but the film was well done despite Dolph not wearing main character Frank Castle's trademark skull shirt.
This was followed by Jonathan Hensleigh directing a pumped-up Thomas Jane. It was a great turn as Punisher with the Garth Ennis-ish screenplay having Jane running around killing John Travolta and his mob gang. Then Hensleigh said he wasn't coming back, followed by Thomas Jane himself.
Jane said, "What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in." Well put.
The film is still on the fast track and while a new Frank Castle has yet to be cast, word has come that Lexi Alexander, or Hooligans and Labor Day fame, will be directing the sequel which will start filming this year in Montreal.
More to come on this story as it comes out.
