Rumors are flying fast that David Tennant, former star of BBC series Doctor Who and lead character in many of my daydreams, is about to head to Middle Earth to star as Bilbo Baggins. The cause? A now-deleted tweet from fellow Brit actor, Simon Pegg:
“David Tennant had to drop out of B&H but by sheer glorious serendipity a legend of Middle Earth and Skull Island has come aboard. Welcome AS"
The tweet, of course, was referring to Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in Lord of the Rings, taking over Tennant's part in Burke and Hare. However, some sites, such as TheOneRing.net are reporting that Tennant is the person heading to Middle Earth, citing a random reader who claims that the following statement was deleted from Pegg's Twitter account:
‘Simon Pegg wrote on Twitter yesterday “Looks like David Tennant will be visiting Middle Earth”…
"He has since…I think…Deleted this post…" claims the reader. However, nothing else corroborates that this tweet occurred. While no one has a screencap of Pegg's Serkis tweet, the statement definitely happened, as indicated by Google search results and Twitter's own internal search engine. (Check out the screencap below and the initial retweets at the Twitter link above, if you don't believe me.)

Evidence of Pegg cleverly tweeting about Tennant as Bilbo? Zero.
Not to mention, Tennant has already signed on to star in a NBC show called Rex is Not Your Lawyer and was recently spotted filming the pilot episode.
Let's call this the ridiculous rumor of the day that it is.
