Will Shia carry on the Indy franchise? An article by Vanity Fair's Jim Windolf claims that could happen:
Frank Marshall, the producer who has attended to everyday matters in the making of all four Indiana Jones movies, was recently asked, in an interview with MTV, if the series would go beyond a fourth movie. “I don’t think so,” he said. “We’re all getting too old. We have to hand the torch to somebody else. I don’t know who that’s going to be.” That’s not exactly the strongest denial, it seems to me. It should also be noted that LaBeouf has stayed away from giving substantial answers to reporters’ questions on the subject of Indiana Jones IV. Perhaps more significantly, the name of the character he plays has yet to be revealed.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will take place in 1957. It’s not hard to imagine the series making a return in a few years, with Ford assuming a background role as LaBeouf takes the punishment and the glory. If it’s done right, how cool would it be to see the franchise making its way into the 1960s and beyond? And there’s something else to consider: Indiana Jones movies are a known and lucrative commodity that should be able to make money for years to come, especially if audiences accept a handover to LaBeouf.

I swear we reported some months ago that the plan was to eventually hand the reigns over to LeBeouf, with Ford having a limited role in upcoming sequels as Shia takes over the franchise but I can't find the news clip. Actually, I'm too damn lazy to search for the news clip.
Personally the thought of Lebeouf being the new Indy makes me want to vomit. I like the kid, but he's more Encylopedia Brown than he is Indiana Jones. Please just let it die after this fourth film.
Despite what I think should happen, I'm right alongside Mr. Windolf on this one. Hollywood is so hard up for creative content that it will milk any franchise that makes money to death. Indy IV will make a ton of money so I would be shocked if another sequel wasn't loudly hinted at by the end of the year.
What do you guys think? Can you see Shia taking over the role? Maybe Shia and Orlando can be in an adventure together and go searching for lost Hello Kitty merchandise. Oh God. I just threw up in my mouth...
