Spider-Man 4 Hits Theaters 2011 (Hopefully)

An L.A. Times article reported that “Spider-Man” producer Laura Ziskin said the fourth installment in the web-slinging superhero series is tentatively scheduled to arrive in May 2011.

I think maybe Sony is heeding the thoughts of Iron Man Director John Favreau when he said that studios should allow 3 years in between films in order to come up with a script worthy of shooting. In talking about a script, Ziskin said there was no finished screenplay, but that she and Sony Pictures were hopeful “Spider-Man 4” could be ready in three years’ time.

Hopeful sounds like they weren’t moved by the recent draft enough to go forward with the project in my mind. It’s probably best to sit tight for a while and let all the current flood of comic films to settle down a bit. Although competition does provide for a better product, Spiderman did just fine when it was the only show in town.

You can also say the 3rd installment of the web crawler was a disappointment and rather than make the same mistake twice, the producers are trouble shooting and fine tuning for a strong comeback! Either way, Spiderman will take a powder for a bit and regroup.
