Star Trek Writers Talk Trek
By George 'El Guapo' Roush on August 28, 2008

Executive producers and writers of the upcoming Star Trek movie talk with two chicks and a film school geek about the upcoming Star Trek movie, and how it isn't necessary a 'prequel'.
This annoys me how things aren't a prequel, or a remake, or a reboot, or a re imagining, or a sequel. Everyone has to be so damned ambiguous nowadays. "Well, it isn't
exactly a prequel. Nor is it a sequel. Actually, there may or may not even be Star Trek characters in the Star Trek movie. You'll just have to wait and see! Heeyuk! Heeyuk!"
If it isn't a prequel, then it must open up in present day Star Trek and they then travel back in time to prevent the Romulans from killing the younger crew members or something silly like that. Hopefully when they travel back in time there are still some humpback whales.

Reading this article, I don't think any film school kid will cry in the future when you tear their movies apart, they will probably consider it a huge compliment.

One Extreme Or The Other Sun Aug 31 at 14:05 EST
My feeling is that this film will go one of two ways, as all of Abrams material always does, it will be COMPLETELY brilliant and Star Trek will live again or it will TOTALLY suck and you can kiss any future Star Trek goodbye............and with Abrams track record lately it will probably be the latter.............also getting REALLY tired of the "going backwards in time" plot.......we want to see the Federation go forward NOT how we have already seen it or how it was before.......that's why Enterprise sucked!

It's Obvious Really Sun Aug 31 at 07:26 EST
It takes place in an alternate universe, with an alternate Kirk, Spock etc. At least I hope so.

Sure, not a prequel Sat Aug 30 at 18:32 EST
It's a story about how the main characters met, but it's not a prequel? Sure, I believe that. I suppose you could show the original cast in an intergalactic nursing home, and they all just reminisce about when they met. I guess that could get by on a technicality, but it wouldn't fool anyone. If you're afraid of the word, "prequel," then maybe the project isn't for you.

Oh I love the ending, "can you guys give us the Vulcan salute?" - oh yeah, I certainly could! I love the squirming to get out of that one.
